SON KILLS DRUNKARD FATHER;Madikeri December 18, 2007 A son killing a drunkard father was reported from Pollibetta. According to police Mahadeva, 26 chopped his father to death yesterday. Deceased Nagaraju alias Nagu, 51 used to drink beyond control every day and pick quarrel with his family. Mahadeva returned from his driver’s duty yesterday and his father raised a quarrel as usual. He picked a sickle and tried to attack his son. Enraged by this act, Mahadeva pulled sickle from his fathers hand and attacked him at his neck. Receiving several hits on his neck and other parts, Nagaraju fell dead in a pool of blood. Police arrested Mahadeva and seized the weapon used for the crime. Deceased leaves wife, son and a daughter. COW TRANSPORT; ACCUSED SENTENCEDThe JMFC court here has sentenced to undergo six months imprisonment and a fine of rupees one thousand to five accused allegedly transporting cows to Kerala. Accused K.U.Abbas, Sheriff, Aari, Abdulla and Abubaker were caught while transporting six cows to Kerala near Cherambane on 2.10.06. The vehicle driver Abbas is fined rupees three thousand. KDP MEET TO BLOCK POWER CUT;The Karnataka Development Review Programme held here yesterday decided to instruct SESK not to apply power cut in the district. The meeting chaired by Zilla Panchayath President Deergakeshi Shivanna observed that the power cut in Kodagu is disturbing students and public at peak hours. Deergakeshi said that the Zilla Panchayath had decided not to apply power cut in Kodagu, four years back. Yet the officials had been ignoring the decision and cutting power erratically. A resolution was passed to instruct the department to abide by the meeting decision. President disclosed that Kodagu is paying electricity bill cent percent. The department was also advised to cut the tree branches obstructing wires inside the estates from January and not during March. Executive engineer of the SESC informed that the power cut is being applied presently due to erection of transformers at Kushalnagar and Madikeri. The meeting discussed in details the law effecting Tribes in conducting survey inside the forests. It was decided to visit the hamlets and conduct a survey. The meeting noted that a committee formed to look into the rights of tribes has not done anything. And they are denied of houses. The meeting took strong note about the misappropriation alleged at Kodava Academy. The assistant director of Kannada and Culture department, Damodar said that the president is soley responsible for the misappropriation. He said that she is not even allowing to inspect the records. The members are put in dark, he accused. It was decided to urge the government to conduct investigation about the corruption charges. CEO Sundar, vice president Rajamma Rudraiah and others were present. |
