CHRISTIAN INSTITUTIONS CONTRIBUTE A LOT FOR EDUCATION; PEJAWAR SWAMIJI;Madikeri December 15, 2007 Contribution by Christian institutions in the country is commendable, said Pejawar seer Vishweshwar Teertha Swamiji. He was speaking at OLV Convent, Somwarpet after inaugurating the golden jubilee function. He stated that a man will turn into a complete human being only through education. He called upon the English medium schools not to consider speaking in Kannada in an English medium school as a crime. Kannada should be given priority, he advised. Swamiji stated that the future of the nation lies in the hands of younger generation. Bishop Dr.Thomas presided over the function and praised the achievements of the convent in the past five decades. Gracious Rodrigus , cine actor Jai Jagadish, Taluk Panchayath president Geeta basappa, BEO Shivanna , Gram Panchayath president Raju Ponnappa and others were present as guests. Founder sister Jeen Mary, Vijeta, Lt Col. G.Umesh, D Souza, Jai Jagadish, Arjun Halappa, Dr.Sudir Shetty, Ramyashree, Antony D Souza were felicitated during the function for their achievement in different fields. MCN URGES DEBT RELIEF ACT;Former minister M.C.Nanaiah has urged the government to introduce debt relief act. Inaugurating merchant’s co operative society at Kushalnagar yesterday, Nanaiah stated death of farmers could be saved by re introducing the debt relief act. He informed that farmers are committing suicide not forced by Co operative societies and it is private financiers who are forcing them. K.S.Himavanth Gopal, Joint director of co operative societies, Mysore inaugurated the safe locker and appreciated the Merchants’ bank of Kodagu which was opening a branch within a short span. He said that loan recovery plays a vital role in the success of a bank. Former MLA K.G.Bopaiah ,CoC chairman Girish Ganapathy, Nagendra Prasad spoke on the occasion .registrar co operative societies, Mohammed Jafrulla Khan inaugurated the computer section. Babuchandra Ullagaddi presided over the function. BJP HOLDS PROTEST;Bharatiya Janatha Party yesterday held a protest against central government and said that the rain insurance amount was not paid to planters. Former MLA K.G.Bopaiah addressed the gathering and said that the central government has failed to fulfil the promise and planters have suffered huge loss due to heavy rain fall. Receiving the memorandum, deputy commissioner Niranjan informed the protestors that he has received fifteen thousand applications from the planters for insurance and the same was forwarded to Coffee board. The work is in progress and the insurance would be paid, he assured. BJP district president Sunil Subramani and others were present. TP CHIEFS BOYCOT MEETING;Somwarpet taluk panchayath president Geetha Basappa and vice president M.K.Pemmaiah boycotted a review meeting of the taluk Panchayath yesterday as MLC Arun machaiah called the meeting. They alleged that the meeting was called by the MLC overlooking them. Aruun Machaiah sought apology and requested them to participate in the meeting. But the duo said they are insulted and walked out of the room. Later, arun Machaiah conducted the meeting and instructed the officials to distribute land right to the beneficiaries who are not given records. The meeting decided to distribute land right to families which are living together. The meeting discussed topics of rain relief, distribution of cards etc. ZP members and officials took part in the meeting. |
