THIRTY CASES OF AIDS AT VIRAJPET;Madikeri December 12, 2007 Dr.Nagaraj of Government hospital at Virajpet told yesterday that there are thirty HIV positive cases around Virajpet. Addressing a programme organized by Cauvery Womens College, Embark association and others, he stated that people should be aware of the consequences of the disease. Addressing the gathering, Dr.Narasimhan said that moral value in India has kept AIDs disease at a distance in India and is not affected greatly by AIDs like other countries. Cauvery college principal Ittira K.Biddappa, Vijaya Vishnu Bhat of Mahila Pratishtana and others were on the dais. Earlier human chain was formed in the town after taking out a procession. ZP MEETING DRAGS ON WITH BRAWLS;The Zilla Panchayath meeting held yesterday had a single agenda with members creating chaos against appointing a standing committee chairman. Members, including ruling party, congress members held that the election held for agriculture and industries standing committee was null and void and rules was flouted in it. Member V.P.Shashidar began the protest at the start of the meeting accusing an officer for proposing welcome by leaving out the names of Standing Committee chairmen’s. Opposition members from BJP rushed to the well more than three times and demanded that the election cannot be justified. Congress members karun kalaiah and Lokeshkumar said that a member who arrived ten minutes late to the election held recently was not aloewed to vote by the president. Later the president was chosen through lottery. Karun kalaiah said that same name was written in two chits and a lottery drama was enacted to eye wash the members. Election officer and deputy secretary Julfikar Ulla denied any such fraud and said that election was conducted properly. The topic was hotly debated for half a day and a resolution was passed to leave the matter to government to decide, who will hold the presidents post to the controversial committee. A suggestion to go to court was given by MLC Arun Machaiah . Members felt that going to court will reduce their value. Chief Executive officer Sundar said that government can resolve the election issue as the name of the president is yet to be announced officially. Members agreed to the suggestion and ended the half day hartal. President Deergakeshi Shivanna presided over. URGE TO WITHDRAW CASE;The Zilla Panchayath has urged the police department to cancel the cases booked against 44 members to have held protest on Rajyotsava day at Madikeri. Member Manu Muthappa said that though a call was given for Kodagu bandh on November one, officials tried to conduct the function by forcing students to participate. Cases were booked against protestors, including him. MLC Arun Machaiah stated that people of Kodagu wished to celebrate November 1 as a black day since they are denied of right over jamma and other lands. But the officials wanted to celebrate, in spite of the pain caused to people. Machaiah cautioned that protests would be organized if the government fails to withdraw the case. Meeting decided to request government to withdraw cases. AIR MADIKERI BAGS TWO AWARDS;All India Radio Madikeri has bagged two awards for programmes and marketing. Announcing this in a press conference here, assistant director of AIR, Indira Gajaraj said that AIR Madikeri is considered as the best in the state among 14 other stations and it is first of its kind achievement in south India, she disclosed. She said that the play ‘Silence please” directed by Ravikumar of Madikeri has bagged first place in the state. Ravikumar spoke on the occasion and said that every word in Kannada could be pronounced with individual accent, whereas the case is different in English language. MYSORE ATTACK; ACCUSED STAYED AT MADIKERI;The accused persons who have tried to murdered congress leader Nagendra at Mysore recently allegedly came to Kodagu and stayed at Madikeri, according to sources. Police said that about eight accused fled Mysore, soon after the incident and arrived at Madikeri. They stayed in a hotel for two nights. Mysore police rushed to Madikeri, acting on a tip off. But the accused had left towards Sakleshpur, using a local taxi. The investigation is on. WOOD WORTH RUPEES EIGHT LAKH SEIZED;Forest mobile squad has seized wood worth rupees eight lakhs stored in a resort at Nadikeri near Ponnampet. Ccording to the complaint, a resident of Ponnampet, K.Chengappa had illegally stored cut trees to make furniture to build cottages to a resort. Already few cottages have come up and wood was being dressed to be used for other cottages, they said. |
