CALL TO IMPROVE COFFEE QUALITY;Madikeri December 5, 2007 Member of the coffee board, P.S.Appachu has called upon the planters to produce quality coffee. Inaugurating a three day seminar to train planters at Thithimathi, he stated that quality is essential for coffee to survive in international market. Increase in quality and production will enable planters to survive, he opined. Another member Thara Aiyamma spoke on the occasion and said that growers should develop scientific knowledge about growing and said that coffee board is imparting training and is providing technological know-how to improve the industry. About thirty planters from South Kodagu are taking part in the three day training beginning from yesterday about coffee production, marketing and financial development. Dr.Anand das Gupta, Dr.panduranga Rao from Bangalore, Dr.Biradara from balehonnur , Dr.narayan Swamy from Kodagu will address the planters during training. Deputy Director of coffee board, K.M.Ramprasad welcomed the gathering. Extension officer Vijaya Kumar proposed vote of thanks. FAST TRACK COURTS DELIVER SPEEDY JUDGEMENTS;Unlike the regular courts where the cases are dragged for a long time, fast track courts are solving the cases at greater speed, said S.J.krishna, civil judge. Addressing a legal aid workshop at Srimangala yesterday on the subject right over properties and atrocity against women, he informed that Law differs from one religion to another in India. While in Hindu religion, a father has no right over his sons property and it goes to his wife, in Islam father has 1/6 right over a sons property in case of the death of the latter. There are certain hitches in law, he observed. He informed that personel matters between a husband and a wife could be questioned by courts today under atrocity against women act. Punishment could be awarded even to unusual sexual behaviors also. He also said that the law about dowry harassment and atrocity against women should not be misused. He informed that three cases of atrocity are pending in court in south Kodagu. He opined that an individuals respect and dignity is also considered as an asset equal to movable and immovable property. Principal civil judge M.H.shantha spoke on the occasion and said that it may not be possible for every one to know all the legal matters, but it is essential to have knowledge about the law which matters in routine life. She informed that free legal service would be provided to persons having income below rupees fifty thousand. She urged the society to solve domestical problems outside the court. she also stressed the need to educate children. Stating that disputes could be solved in Loka adalath, she said that such cases cannot be appealed. Virajpet BAR association president madappa inaugurated the Workshop. Former president of taluk Panchayath, Revathy Parameshwar presided over the function. Principal Civil judge S.N.Gaddi was present. Advocate Mani Nanjappa and A.G.Shilpa delivered lecture. |
