NESTLE CUP KICK STARTS;

The fourteenth year Nestle Hockey Cup tournament was inaugurated yesterday at Cauvery College grounds at Gonicoppa yesterday.

Jagadish from Nestle group inaugurated the tournament in the morning by shaking hands with members of two teams, Ammathi Sports Club and Virajpet topwers team.

Coorg Hockey Association president Mohan Aiyappa, Secretary Puchimada Harish and others were present. Ammathi sportsd club won against Virajpet towers team by 3 – 0.

The three day tournament sponsored by Nestle and Skanda Coffee, orgnaised by Coorg Hockey Association will conclude tomorrow.

MLC WARNS OFFICIALS;

MLC Arun Machaiah yesterday warned officials who ignore development review meetings and cautioned that he will complain against such officials directly to the governor.

Holding a review meeting yesterday at Virajpet, Machaiah lambasted the forest and police officials who were absent in the meeting. He called the DFO Patak over telephone and bombarded him in the open meeting for not attending the meetings continuously.

Machaiah said that many developmental works in Virajpet taluk remain incomplete due to official lethargy and negligence. He directed the executive officer to issue notice to the presidents of Ambedkar Abhivrudi Nigama and Nirmiti Kendra., Kushalnagar to be present in the next meeting since irregularities are being heard. He raised objection about rejecting about 2144 applications out of 5880 beneficiaries who had applied for Ashraya house.

Tahasildar Shwetha, presiding over the meeting clarified that she has no power to sanction the houses on her own. She said that aboput fifteen acres of encroached land was released from the encroachers and earmarked for the landless. She gave statistics about rain damage and other developments in the taluk.

MEMBERS DENY MISAPPROPRIATION IN ACADEMY

Six Members of the Kodava Academy here have denied any misappropriation and said that a group is indulging in maligning the dignity of academy and its president for personal gain.

Addressing a press conference yesterday, members’ kaliyanda Sabu Aiyanna, Muddiyada Kushu Ponnappa, Nanuvanda enu machaiah, Bottolanda Kashi Achaiah, Naliyammanda Umesh Kechamaiah and Mukkatira Tangamma said that few members, joining hands with an outsider are indulging in unnecessary allegations to avenge their personal enmity.

They listed out the achievements by the academy since two and a half years and said that it’s being applauded all over the state. They said that Vishwa Kodava mela is in the anvil. All the five lakh people of Kodagu wants Sammelan to be held and only about five people are opposing it. The academy will go ahead with its mission, they asserted.

Members alleged that they suspect the involvement of the registrar in the misappropriation of funds in the academy.

A BIG PYTHON CATCHE !

A fifteen feet long, big python was caught at Devarapura in South Kodagu and let inside a forest.

A group of youth driving from Bangalore to Kodagu on Wednesday morning had a rare sight of a python swallowing a dog on road side in the highway. They informed this to snake expert in Kodagu, snake Satish.

Satish rushed to the spot and was fascinated at the sight as this was the longest snake he had ever seen Kodagu. The longest python ever found in India, according to him was eighteen feet!

This python weighed fifty kilogram. The python was carefully carried to a nerby forest and let inside.
