HUSBAND CONVICTED

Madikeri Aug. 18 Suicidal death of a housewife and her girl child 5 years back now resulted in the conviction of husband and his father.

On 25-6-2002 Dharani (Usha) jumped to a well in her house premises along with her daughter Riya. Both lost their life. Police had registered suicide case. Many woman organisations then protested against the doubtful case alleging the husband’s insolvent through dowry harassment to the deceased woman. police then changed the cause of death as the dowry harassment and charge sheeted the husband Palengada Mohan and his father Uthaiah.The fast track court has convicted both the accused. The Judge S.K.Kumbar announced 7years rigorous imprisonment for Mohan plus Rs. 50 thousand fine and 5 years RI for Uthaiah and Rs. 25 thousand fine

CNC “Sathyagraha” at Bangalore

Madikeri Aug. 18 Codava National Council staged “Sathyagraha” at Bangalore today. About 80 activists held a daylong sathyagraha near Gandhi statue, Cubbon park, Bangalore. C.N.C Secretary general N.U.Nachappa led the team.

The team sent memorandums to the State governor and the Chief Minister. The briefing of the memorandum is here: To protect, preserve and promot the interests of cultural ethnic and linguistic minority nationalities by majority groups, we demand such and identical treatment for Codavas within Karnataka. It shall for all times to come be nomenclature as Codava Autonomous Region and Codava Land.

A speedy and perment solution for the Codava inherent land tenures of Jamma, Jamma malai and bane under article 370 and 371 of Constitution of India i.e central legislation.

Codava’s should be treated as primitive ethno linguistic minority tribal group under article 340, 342 of the constitution of India by extending the reservation facilirties in all the sdctors including education, employment and financial assistance to Codavas on a priority basis, as done in relation to the people of Lakshadweep.

Codava language should be included in the 8th schedule of our constitution.
