SUMA DEMANDS IMMEDIATE RELIEF

Madikeri Aug. 15 The ex. Minister Smt. Suma Vasanth deamands immediate relief to the flood victims in kodagu District. In a press conference orgonised at Gonikoppal She alleged that the distict administration is delaying the relief measures where urgent attention is needed.

During the ex. Chief Minister Mr. S.MKrishna’s regime, the state Govt. had provided to utilize the M.L.A grant amounts t for urgent relief measures. She criticized the programme planned by a group of M.L.A’s to fly over to China as a trip under Govt. expense. She urged to cancel the tour programme and to tour the flood affected places. She recalled the fast progress work when Mr. Alangur Shrinivas was the District Incharge Minster. The present Incharge Minister Mr.Ramachandra Gowda has no concern over the problems in the district she opined. The district has suffered heavy loss of more than 56 crores due to this year’s rain havoc. The Govt. has released just Rs. 5 crores for an eye wash pretext.

The Incharge minister has treated the Kodagu people as the wild animals and he is just interested in getting the news about Cauveri river filling the K.R.S she added. The district needs minimum of Rs. 400 crores for the advanced ongoing public works she analised. she expalained about the bad work done by the concerned departments in Nidugumba, Kollithodau, Virajpert-Makutta Road,Seegethodu, B.Shettigeri, Balele,Nittur and Kanur villages in South Kodagu.If the Govt. continue its’ same attitude of negligence towards Kodagu, the time may occur for provactaion of naxcal movent in Kodagu akin to Chickmagalur she warned.

PEOPLE LEAVE HOUSES:School closed

Madikeri Aug. 15 people leaeve houses, the school closed and became dead centre in the forest area. This development could be seen in Karike-the Kodagu-kerala border area near Bhagamandala.The attack by elephant could not be withstood by the innocent villagers who entirely depend on the farming activity for their livelihood. Altogether 9 elephants continuously damage the coconut, banana and areca nut plants grown by the farmers .In one area the elephants have completely destroyed 150 eight year old areca nut plants belong to satish of Karike village.The elephants are freely moving in front of the houses and the villages have fled away to safer places leaving their houses. The school building at Karike has become the dead centre as the children fear walking towards the schools due to elephant menace. Forest department is mum after receiving several complaints from the villagers. Z.P.member P.M.Rajiv, Village Panchayath member Jayanth and engineer Padmakumar have visited the affected spots and assured to submit a report to the Z.P.and other concerned departments for suitable action and to give necessary compensation for the affected people in the area.

We achieved through lottery and arrack ban in Karnataka.Although the decision resulted in revenue loss, we have the satisfaction of lifting up the medium and poor class people from the hell of life standard -said Mr.Ramachandra Gowda, the Kodagu Incharge Minister. He was addressing the gathering after flag hoisting in fort premises, Madikeri during the official 60th year Independence day celebration here. The farming community enjoys the lowest interest of 4 % on the farming loan; Rs. One thousand each will be released for the cremation of dead to the downtrodden family members. The controversial Jamma bane lands circulars were withdrawn and a special committee has been formed to further study the issue.5 acres of land is reserved for the construction of the district offices which are to be shifted from fort area of present situation’s. 4 crore has been released for the construction of the coplex.. Rs4.07 crores is spent for the rural houses, borewells, open wells and other drinking water schemes. In the district-Ramachandragowda explained.

Rs. 73.21 lakh is reserved for Swarna jayanthi village rozgar scheme.Under complete clean movement 12 village Panchayaths obtained the presidents’ award. Under the Suvarna Gramodyoga project Rs. One crore sixty five lakh is released and shortly work will be commenced. Theis year total 5,880 house construction is aimed.

The rain damage estimated in Kodagu is 56 crores. Rs. 6.50 crore is so for released. The remaining amount will be released by the Govt. soon. Under Janani Suraksha project, for the 828 beneficiaries Rs. 5.49 lakh is distributed.

Under the Bhagyalakshmi scheme from 1-4-2007 to 31-7-2007 2300 girls’ born;847 comes under BPL list. Rs. 8.47 lakh will be deposited in total in their names.The Thalacauvery-Bhagamndala renovation is under completion. The project cost is Rs. 10.50 crores.Rs. 2.50 crore proposal under tourism is to be considered. Rs. 10 lakh released for the construction of concrete helipad in Madikeri.-Mr. Ramachandra Gowda explained.
