KANNADA LITERATURE SHOULD BE ENCOURAGED;

A situation has arisen that Kannada literature should be encouraged to meet the challenges posed by English literature, said a litterateur and professor Prabhakar Shishila.

Addressing a lecture programme organized by kannada and Culture department, Sahitya Parishath and Taluk Makkala sahitya Vedike , he said that English literature has occupied a prominent position in the society and need of the hour is to develop Kannada literature.

He said that awareness should be brought among the people about this.

Head of Kannada department at Mangalore University, Dr.Chinnappa Gowda said that multiple culture and language is the treasure of India. He spoke about the significance of Folk art and said that it is a part of culture. He feared that the folk art is facing danger of extinction and it should receive enough attention.

Inaugurating the function, G.Chidvilas regretted that Kannada and Culture department officials are ignoring cultural activities and fail to take part in the programmes. He said that the government is pumping funds to conduct border festivals and it is not being utilized by the department. As a result, Kodagu Utsava and border festivals are suffering, he said.

NO BOYCOTTINT INDEPENDENCE DAY;

The Kodagu Existence committee has said that it is not going to boycott Independence day programme.

Contradicting their own decision of last week to boycott Independence day, convenor of the committee M.N.belliappa has said that though they desired to hold protest on the said day, the committee has decided to postpone the protest and celebrate Independence day in a befitting manner.

The committee had earlier mentioned about boycott to pressurize government to with draw a forest circular damaging the rights of people. He said that he is hopeful that the Chief minister will reverse the circular as he did with Jamma circulars.

CM CONFIRMS VISIT TO KODAGU;

Chief Minister Kumarswamy has confirmed his visit to Kodagu.

Talking to this correspondent after a seminar organized at Bangalore yesterday by Patrika Academy, he stated that he has decided to stay in Kodagu for a day and it will materialize shortly.

Reacting to the controversial circular of forest department pending before the government and protests being organized in Kodagu, he clarified that it will be taken back soon just like he did with the revenue circular questioning the Jamma right.

ORGANISATIONS HOLD FASTING ON RAMSETHU’

Rashtriya Swayam Sevaka Sangha and other Hindu organizations held fasting to protest the proposed ‘Ramsethu” bridge project by the government.

Members held protest at Madikeri, Kushalnagar, Somwarpet and Virajpet and demanded that the government should drop the Ramsethu project. They stated that the bridge identified by the satellite dates back to Ramayan, the era of Sriram and it is built by monkies to cross to Srilanka.

MLA K.G.Bopaiah , BJP district president Sunil Subramani and Chi.Na.Somesh took the lead at madikeri. Former MLA Appachu Ranjan was in the lead at Somwarpet. Matrumandali president Vijaya Vishnu Bhat took the lead at Virajpet. B.S.Dinesh and others lead the protest at Kushalnagar.
