VIDEO CAMS TO MONITOR DASARA LAW AND ORDER;

Police department is all set to tackle law and order situation during Dasara celebrations at Madikeri.

The superintendent of police Ramachandra Rao said that ten video cams will record all the events and movements during dasara. Stating that trouble makers could be traced through this device, he recalled that culprits were caught this way during the riot after the death of Dr.Rajkumar.

SP said that police from other districts will also be deployed on October two for security. Apart from the regular force, there will be a striking squad and mobile police units making rounds.

Thousands of people will gather at Madikeri to witness the grand procession of mantaps which attracts people from all over, after Mysore dasara. Hotels and home stays are all booked in Kodagu for the whole week and inflow of tourists is on the raise.

Parking arrangements are made in different corners of the town and vehicular traffic within the town would be restricted on the night of 2nd. Ramachandra rao has appealed to public to co operates with the police by maintaining peace.

BJP SERVES ULTIMATUM TO REPAIR ROADS;

The Virajpet town BJP has served an ultimatum of one week to the Public Works Department to repair roads.

General Secretary Shabarish said that the condition of roads in Virajpet is dilapidated and should be repaired within a week. The party proposes to hold protest if the department ignores its demand.

Addressing a press conference at Virajpet, committee president Kumar said that the party will tackle prevailing problems of the town like street lights, irregularities in hospital in phases.

ELEPHANT HERD CHASES SLEEP AWAY;

An elephant herd at Kotekurav village in Somwarpet taluk is chasing the sleep away to villagers.

Attached to Kodlipet town in the border between Kodagu and Hassan, Kotekurav residents had a shock of their life yesterday to see a herd of eight wild elephants with two calfs striding towards a petrol bunk during day time. People gathered and a complaint was lodged to forest department.

Forest sleuths along with Ranger Chinnappa arrived at the spot and advised the villagers not to create confusion to the herd which might attack. The herd entered the forest within the village. Night long efforts to chase the herd away failed. People have appealed to the district officials to rid them of elephant menace which has become a routine.
