GENERAL THIMMAIAH MONUMENT

Madikeri Sept.25 The Madikeri RTO office will be converted to General Thimmaiah memorial. Museum. The state Govt. has sanctioned Rs. 2 crore for the construction of new RTO office in some other place. General Thimmaiah trust has been formed in a meeting held here to chalk out the future project. The RTO officials clarified that the Govt. has sanctioned the amount for the construction of new building, but the availability of the land is being searched.

Minimum of 5 acres of land is required for the purpose. The high level meeting resolved to shift the RTO office immediately for enabling the commencement of the memorial museum at the earliest .The RTO department had purchased the General Thimmaiah’s house and the land during 1972.The department had built the separate dwelling hoses for the officials. The officials opined that the memorial trust can acquire the General Thimmaiah residence only. Out of 1.8 acres of land available. A portion of the land can be continued to the department, so that separate office can be constructed in this area. However the newly formed trust members did not accepted the proposal. They suggested to leave the place for the memorial and to search for a new land to construct the RTO office.

The trustees recalled the Govt’s decision of sanctioning 100 acres of land for the National poet Kuvempu’s memorial. A trust has been formed there to maintain the memorial .On this basis General Thimmaiah trust should be formed-said Smt. Dati pooviaah, the Kodava Academy chairman. The meeting convened by the Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav welcomed the suggestion and a trust has been formed with the support of the majority of the attendants in the meeting.

Three members from the All Kodava federation, three members from the other communities in the district, Kodava academy chairman, a member to represent General Thimmaiah’s family and Lt.Gen Nanda (Retd.) have became the new trustees.
