MADIKERI DASARA STARTED

The historical Madikeri Dasara has traditionally commenced from today. The 4 “Karagas” started moving with divine dance in the town after performing pooja at “Karaga Peeta” near pampinkere., Madikeri.The Mariamma festive idols from Dandina Mariamma, kote Mariamma, kundurumotte Chowti Mariamma and kanchi kamakshi temples are carried by the traditional hereditary persons. The persons who lift the karagas move in the town dancing with attractive steps. They follow strict religious methods to perform the historic annual performances.

These karagas will move throughout the Navarathri days in the town area. The citizens in every house give poojas to these Karagas. The procession of Karagas is followed since the ages of dynasty rules of Kodagu kings like Lingaraja and Chikka Veeraaja.

The cultural programmes are arranged at Madikeri town hall from 24th to 29th of this month. Bharatha Natyam, folk songs, folk dances, instrumental music, varieties of dances, magic shows and other performances are arranged. The local and the outside artists participate in these programmes.

From 30th September to 2nd October the special cultural programmes and orchestras will attract at a huge and well decorated stage at the open grounds in Gandhi Maidan, Madikeri.On the2nd night special orchestra will entertain the more than 2 lakh viewers throught the night. The ten Dasara temples will participate in the tableaus competitions. The earthen structures with full movement and sound reveals the ancient stories..Killing of demnos by the Gods, the reveal of “Avatharas” attracts the Dasara viewers throughout the night on the 2nd October. Madikeri Dasara is attracting more number of outside viewers during recent years.
