WCS AWARD TO MUTHANNA;Madikeri September 19, 2006 M.P.Muthanna of Lift organization in Kodagu has received the prestigious Wild Life Conservation award distributed by New York based WCS organization. Muthanna is working for the wild life conservation through his organization LIFT in Kodagu. He has received the award along with Sambakumar of Centre for Wildlife Studies, Bangalore. The awards were recently distributed in a function held at Atriya, Bangalore and was distributed by George Showler of WCS. Muthanna was selected for fellowship under Twenty First century Tiger project, last year. TIGER CLAIMS A COW;A tiger has killed a cow belonging to a planter in south kodagu. A tiger reportedly jumped a four feet compound wall of M.R.Vittala of Irpu village and attacked a cow in its shed at night. Later it carried the cow again across the compound and ate it at a distance from the house The family members found the carcass yesterday. The villagers are terrified as the man eater was roaming only around Kutta region adjacent to Nagarahole national park earlier. Two persons were killed and dozens of live stock was eaten by the man eater. The forest department is trying to catch the man eater by fixing cameras in certain places to trace it. CNC TO HOLD ‘DEHALI CHALO ‘The Codava National Council, led by its secretary general N.U.Nachappa will hold Delhi Chalo during November. Disclosing this in a press conference, Nachappa stated that Dehali Chalo would be held on November first on the eve of Rajyotsava day to press demands. He said that the centre has ignored the interest of Kodagu as for as its land, culture and language are concerned. Nachappa also said that a protest would be held in front of the Deputy Commissioners office here on October third, the day of the minorities. He opined that constitutional guarantee should be given to Kodava Community and the language should be included in the eighth schedule. Stating that Kodava language should be made into administrative language under constitutional section 350. He said that the president should take action against the concerned who are not suppoting this. |
