TUSKER DIES IN MAIZE FIELD;

Madikeri September 17

A tusker died yesterday in a maize field at Gonimarur in Somwarpet taluk.

The Range Forest Officer Chinnnappa told that the 22 year old tusker died due to the consumption of Maize plants which emit poisonous milk.

The incident occurred in the maize field of a lady in the wee hours. The tusker feasted over the maize crop in excess and died due to suffocation. Though the pachyderm had fallen on a electric fence, which was broken, the veterinary doctors told after the autopsy that the death has occurred due to suffocation caused by eating too much of maize.

The villagers complained to forest officials who arrived at the spot that the herds of elephants rampage their crops regularly and they even fear their lives. They have appealed to either catch them or chase them away.

HOLIDAY FOR SCHOOLS;

The schools will remain closed till October one for mid term holiday.

The DDPI Basheer stated that though the holiday was extended up to October 3 in other places, Kodagu gets two day less as those were utilized for monsoon holiday.

BANK EMPLOYEE DIES IN MISHAP;

A corporation bank employee at Ponnampet died yesterday in a bike mishap.

Pillion rider Gangadaraiah, 48 died on the spot as the bike run by his colleague Narasimhamurthy skidded near Gonicoppal. They were returning from a party and the bike was thrown off after tumbling in a pot hole. Narasimhamurthy received minor injuries.

The deceased is a native of magadi taluk in Bangalore. He leaves wife and four children.
