MINISTER ASSURES KENDRIYA SCHOOL AND SAINIK SCHOOL;Madikeri September 16, 2006 Minister for higher education, D.H.Shankara Murthy told that he will use his good office to see that Kodagu gets a Kendriya school and a Sainik school. Addresing scribes here yesterday he said that the above two proposals, which are almost through would receive first priority from the government. Patting his governments back, the minister explained that more than twenty thousand poor students have entered medical and other technical colleges. It was the result of CET problem being solved by the government, he said. The minister said that the government will appoint 650 lecturers all over the state for higher education at present and 500 more will be taken in the next stage. The honorarium to the guest lecturers is also increased, he said. He also said that the government has filled the vacant posts in Junior colleges and permission was granted to about 300 PU colleges, 500 high schools and hostels for Sc Sts in the state. Speaking about the medical colleges, he said that two more will be started by the government in Shimoga and Hassan shortly. The minister spoke at length about the developmental activities of the government. MINISTER INVITES CARDAMOM GROWERS TO BANGALORE;Minister D.H.Shankara Murthy invited Cardamom growers to Bangalore to find a solution to their problems. Inaugurating a new building of the Cardamom society yesterday he opined that the government is committed to solve the problems faced by cardamom and coffee growers. Appreciating the achievements of the 67 year old Cardamom Society, he assured the growers that he will organize a meeting with the agriculture minister and the concerned at Bangalore to discuss the existing problems and solutions. Addressing the gathering, MLA K.G.Bopaiah stated that co operative societies should have autonomy and function independently without the interference from the officers to achieve success. He quoted the example of Gujarat and said that if such societies in Gujarat can succeed, why not should it fail in Karnataka, he questioned. Society members S.G.Medappa and B.D.Manjunath also spoke on the occasion. SUICIDE CREATES TEMTION;Suicide by a student created tention at kushalnagar yesterday. Tension mounted as the news of a student of Bharatmaata convent committing suicide reached the town. A tenth standard student Ravichandra consumed poison at his house yesterday and died at the hospital. The parents said that the convent teachers behaved rudely with him for some reason and unable to withstand the shame, he committed suicide. People gathered before the convent in large number and began to protest with the dead body in front. Intervention by the police brought the situation under control and the crowd dispersed after the police assured to register a case and conduct enquiry. |
