BETOLI VILLAGERS STAGE PROTEST;Villagers of Betoli and surrounding areas yesterday staged a protest in front of Town panchayath, Virajpet and demanded to stop dumping garbage in their village. Villagers led by Gram Panchayath president Ranji Poonacha stated that the Virajpet Town panchayth has turned their village into a dumping yard and the residents fear outbreak of epidemics. Protestors went in a procession and handed over a memorandum to the tahasildar. They alleged that repeated appeals to the DC and other officials to shift dumping went in vein. Deputy commissioner Subodh Yadav had given false assurance to shift the garbage yard, they alleged. They have also warned that the vehicle carrying garbage will not be let to enter their village from today. Members of Gram panchayath, Taluk Panchayath and Stree shakthi groups took part in large number. Tahasildar Tulasi has assured action and said that the memorandum would be sent to the Deputy Commissioner. PHOTO NEWS |
