SIX TEACHERS HONOURED;

Six teachers from the district were felicitated yesterday with “Uttama Shikshaka” award.

In a function organized by the Zilla Panchayath and Deputy Director of Public Instructions, MLA K.G.Bopaiah and Zilla Panchayath president Ashok felicitated the awardees here yesterday.

M.B.Taaliyamma from Hakathur School, P.Doddanna of Peraje, M.M.Leelavathy of Ammathi, Ravikumar of Saint Annamma school, Komari Gopda of Gowdalli and B.krishnamurthy of Torenur were the lucky six honored with the award.

“Best school” awards were also distributed to couple of schools in the district.

Addressing the gathering Shantha Mallikarjuna Swamiji of Arameri kalanchakeri Mutt called upon the teachers to maintain respect of the post enjoyed by it. He said that a better society could be formed through better education. Stating that the children are provided only with the bread earning education, he urged to provide such an education which will teach an individual the values of life.

Swamiji regretted that the nation is suffering from cancerous education, corrupt politics and flamboyant religious leaders. These ills could be wiped out only through better education, he repeated.

MLA K.G.Bopaiah presided over the meeting and said that parents also play a major role in building the future of their children as society cannot be built only by teachers or politicians.

Zilla panchayath president Ashok inaugurated the meeting and called upon the teachers to be responsible as a mistake committed by a teacher might turn into a model for others to follow. ZP member V.P.Shashidar also spoke on the occasion. ZP vice president Neelamma and others were also present.


CLINIC INAUGURATED;

MLA K.G.Bopaiah yesterday inaugurated a Clinic at Mekeri village.

Inaugurating the Clinic sponsored by Rotary Misty Hills, Madikeri and Ashwini Hospital, Bopaiah appreciated that the service organizations are taking interest in providing health care to villagers. He called upon the organizations to enter remote villages to extend service.

Dr.Kulkarni spoke on the occasion and explained how health treatment is different from duty. Doctors should do it with a service motto, he said. Mekeri Gowri Shankara temple trust president K.K.Poornaiah and vice president of Ashwini Hospital trust, M.U.Kalappa spoke on the occasion. Mysty Hills president A.K.Jeevan spoke about the activities of the club. His wife Ranjani Jeevan donated medicines worth rupees five thousand to the clinic.

MINOR RAPED;

Police arrested a person yesterday for raping a minor girl.

According to police an estate worker Aithappa raped a fifth standard student inside the estate near Sunticoppa.

Aithappa is married and has a child.

The girl is hospitalized and the accused is sent to judicial custody.
