WATERY GRAVE FOR TWO YOUTH;Madikeri September 5, 200 Two youth venturing to pluck wild berries from a tree in the middle of a lake entered watery grave yesterday. According to sources, Ranjan and Yogesh, both aged eighteen were the victims. Two of them, along with Ranjans brother Jeevan entered the lake at Yelakanur near Somwarpet by afternoon. Ranjan swam near the tree and began to pluck the berries. He called the other two to catch the berries. Since the other two did not know swimming, Yogesh walked upto knee high leveled water. Alas he slipped into a deep ditch and shouted for help. Ranjan came to his rescue and tried to pull him to the shore. In the milee, Ranjan also got drowned along with Yogesh. Jeevan who stood on the shore watched the calamity and ran into the village seeking for help. Police and public pulled up the dead bodies after much search. Sub inspector Gopala Krishna Bhat registered a case. CMC APPROVES RUPEES 88 LAKH WORK;In an emergency meeting held here yesterday the Madikeri City Municipal Council, resolution approving rupees 88 lakh worth works were approved. The meeting was held in the presence of K.G.Bopaiah, MLA and Commissioner Roy. The Deputy Commissioner, who is the heading the administration had deputed another officer in his place. The works include constructions under Kooligagi Kaalu project at rupees 12.62 lakh. A total of 72 works would be undertaken. Meanwhile the members took objection and said that the contractors are ignoring the works already entrusted to them and many old works are still pending. The meeting cautioned such contractors and threatened to blacklist them, if they ignore the works yet again. REVENUE EMPLOYEE COMMITTS SUICIDE;A revenue employee at Hassan, Mahesh 30 committed suicide in a relative’s house at Bhagamandala, yesterday. Recently married, Mahesh was working as a computer operator at Hassan Taluk Panchayath office. A chit was found in his pocket stating that he was burdened with debt and decided to die. Meanwhile residents of Bhagamandala have expressed suspicion about the cause death. Zilla panchayath member Rajiv has appealed to police to investigate the matter as Mahesh was found in a jovial mood with the neighbors since three – four days during his stay. ONAM CELEBRATED;Onam was celebrated in a colourful way in kodagu. A picture of flowers arranged before a house is attached. |
