VILLAGES TO GET ROADS, BRIDGES;Madikeri September 1, 2006 A delegation of officials led by Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav yesterday visited remote villages in Somwarpet taluk and inspected the conditions. The delegation was taken by the DC as cluster of villages at Somwarpet taluk are reeling under apathy with no roads and proper facilities. DC suggested the engineering department of the Zilla Panchayath to prepare a scheme to include roads, drainage and hanging bridges to improve the village conditions. Hattihole, Mukkodlu, Hammiyala and Muttlu villages would be linked properly through roads and bridges. DC also assured to repair the existing roads damaged by rainfall and provide compensation to agriculturists who lost their crops due to flood situation. MINING TO BE STOPPED AT BITTANGALA;Officials have assured the villagers of Bittangala that mining activity would be stopped in the village. In a protest meet organized at the village yesterday, officials listened to the grievances of the people. The meeting chaired by Chendrimada Ganesh Nanjappa said that mining in the village has split villagers which ended in a murder recently. He also said that innocent people are also harassed in the murder case. DySP Swamy assured that investigation would be conducted impartially. Tahasildar Shakuntala said that mining license would be with held. President of Bittangala gram panchayath P.A.Shivappa, officials and villagers were present in the meeting. ROSE WOOD SEIZED;Madikeri rural police yesterday seized a lorry along with rosewood worth lakhs being transported illegally. According to police five persons were involved in transporting the wood illegally from an estate near Madikeri. Three persons are arrested in this connection. The seizure is valued at rupees 4.5 lakh. Accused are sent to judicial custody. |
