JUSTICE TO PEOPLE SHOULD BE THE AIM OF JUDICIARY;Madikeri October 30, 2006 Justice Bopanna called upon the judiciary and said that its aim should be to deliver justice to common man and care should be taken not to punish innocent people. Justice Bopanna was addressing the function organized by Courts and Bar associations of the district to commemorate the fiftieth year celebration of Karnataka High court. Stating that the responsibility of running the society depends entirely on legislatures and bureaucracy, Boapanna said that judiciary alone cannot carry the entire burden. Inaugurating the function district judicial administrator and justice Huluvadi G.Ramesh regretted that judiciary has the bitter experience of dealing with wrong rules laid down by the legislators at times. He stated that the three pillars of the society, legislation, bureaucracy and judiciary should always keep the interest of the common man in mind and function accordingly. Giving an example as to how judiciary gets into conflict with the government, Ramesh said that if the judiciary tries to provide equal justice to all when government stresses on reservation policy with a political motive, a controversy arises. Judiciary should act very cautiously under such circumstances so as not to lose the confidence of the people, he said. He also said that a sub court will start functioniong at Ponnampet shortly. One more court at Kushalnagar will also be commissioned on demand, he said. Former law and parliamentary minister M.C.Nanaiah spoke on the occasion and said that judiciary should not function under the mercy of legislation or bureaucracy at any cost. Unfurling the happenings of emergency period during the rule of late Mrs.Indira Gandhi, Nanaiah said that judiciary did not function firmly during that period. Judiciary should act fearlessly, he opined. Retired chief justice Chinnappa spoke on the occasion and regretted that the advocates from Kodagu are reluctant to become judges and appealed to them to opt the post. District and sessions judge Venkatesh stated that judiciary in Kodagu is satisfactorily functioning and has solved around 653 cases in two months time through fast tract court and Loka adalath. MLA and advocate, K.G.Boapaih addressing the gathering stated that poor man is denied benefits from politicians, bureaucrats and even by judiciary. Need of the day is to think about the realities, he said. Former minister M.C.nanaiah, Justice Bopanna, justice Huluvadi ramesh, former justice Chinnappa and others are seen. CUP TASTING UNIT AT CHETTALLI;As a boon to the planters, Coffee research station, Chettalli has come out with a ‘cup tasting’ unit. Announcing this in a plantation visit programme recently , assistant director of research station, Prakashan said that the cup tasting unit will assist the planters to assess the standard of their coffee ceeds and decide about internal and external market value. He appealed to the planters to make use of the facility. He stated that the research centre is dedicated to find new solutions to existing problems and diseases to coffee plantation and planters should keep in touch with them to improve their crop. Doctor Sudhakar Bhat, B.G.Muthanna and others spoke on the occasion. |
