KANNADA RALLY ATTRACTS PUPIL;

Kannada rally organized here by Education department drew large crowds and hundreds of students took out a colourful procession as a part of Suvarana Karnataka Pratiba Karanji programme, yesterday.

Tableux, attires depicting different culture,

kalasha held students in sarees were some of the attractions the procession offered.

Civil Judge Srikanth Vatavati inaugurated the programme by hoisting Kannada flag at St.Meicheals ground. Addressing the gathering, he appreciated that people of Kodagu respect Kannada hand in hand with Kodava language.

Kodava academy president Dotty Poovaiah stated that

Kannada language is the basis of every other language and even Kodava language has its scripts in Kannada. District Kannada Sahitya Parishath president T.P.ramesh, taluk president Baby Mathew and others took part in the procession.

Students hailing from many schools in the district took part in the procession, dressed like freedom fighters and Kings who ruled the country and state.

WIDOW MURDERED;

Police arrested a person for murdering a widow at her house at Virajpet, yesterday.

According to them, a police sheeter Raja, 29 strangled her to death at night. He killed her as the other inmates of the house had gone out. The incident came to light after midnight during the arrival of victims children who found the doors locked from inside. The accused who was hiding inside the house was reluctant to open the door. The door was force opened by the family members and the accused was caught by them.

Police stated that the accused had illicit relationship with the widow’s daughter, a divorcee, and the widow was opposing it. Even on 25th they had a verbal brawl and the lady had sternly warned him not to disturb his daughter.

Police stated that Raja had committed theft in the same house earlier and elsewhere too. He is remanded to judicial custody.

MURDERER GETS LIFER;

A murderer stabbing to death his tent mate is given lifer by fast track court at Virajpet.

Sabu, 40 was killed by one Kurka, 35 at Eechur village near Ponnampet during August 2005. A fight broke between the two over a matter of cooking inside a temporary shed erected in the ginger field. Kurka attacked Sabu, who died on the spot.

The judge Jawed Pasha sentenced Karku to life imprisonment after verifying about 17 witnesses.

STATE LEVEL HOCKEY INAUGURATED;

A state level hockey tournament for students was inaugurated yesterday at Virajpet.

Inaugurating the tournament, MLC Arun Machaiah called upon the students to keep away from drugs as it spoils their life and career. The hockey was organized on to mark Suvarna Karnataka celebration by the sports and education departments.

MLA Basavaraju stated that students should get involved in sports activities as it is also a part of education. He hoisted the sports flag and received guard of honor from students hailing from different parts of the state.

DDPI Mohammed Basheer and others were present. The three day event will have 19 teams from parts of the state.
