SIX FROM KODAGU DIE IN HIGHWAY MISHAP

Six couple and a driver were killed on the spot and four others received grievous injuries in a gruesome accident between a Tempo Trax and a lorry in national highway, 206.

According to police, a speeding lorry, driven recklessly bashed against a Tempo Trax and killed seven persons including the driver. In the heart rending incident, three couple married within a year, hailing from Kodagu and working in Bangalore succumbed on the spot. Four more persons from Kodagu are shifted to Nimhans and other hospitals in Bangalore in a serious condition.

Eleven persons, including the driver were returning from Goa after spending holidays and entered the jaws of death around 10 am today.

The deceased are;

Bachamanda Sachin Somaiah, 27, hailing from Kunjila kakkabe and working for Kion furniture, Bangalore. His wife Kupadira savita, 26, from Hakattur, working in the same company.

Bachamanda Rupesh nanaiah, 27, hailing from Kunjila Kakkabbe and working for Colarado company in Bangalore.

His wife Prathi, 27 working in a private company in Bangalore.

Nellamakkada Chiran, 28, from Ammathi, working at mandya education department and his wife Chembanda Vinci, 27 from Chembebellur, working for tata indicom company.

Tempo trax Driver Nagaraj, 27.( Vehicle number KA 01 B 4996)

Injured are Bachamanda sarin, Achandira Kushalappa, Iychettira Kishan, Puliyanda santosh Chengappa.

Tumkur police have registered a case.

ANTI DOWRY JATHA HELD AT VIRAJPET;

An anti dowry jatha was held at Virajpet yesterday.

A procession organized by DYFI was taken out in the main streets and a n effigy of “Dowry Ghost” was burnt at chowk. A memorandum was submitted to the Tahasildar to curb dowry harassments in kodagu.

The DYFI alleged in the memorandum that even Kodagu is not left free from dowry menace. They urged concrete measures to put a complete full stop to it. District DYFI convenor mary Ambudas presided over the function held later. State secretary of Janavadi sanga, Devi, Dr.Durga Prasad, Ramanath, Varija and others were present.


PROTEST PLANNED AT SOUTH KODAGU;

The dilapidated road condition in South Kodagu is inviting strong protests from many quarters and busses have decided to go off road.

The private bus owner’s association president Puttuswamy has said in a press conference held at Virajpet that all roads in Virajpet taluk are in a horrific condition and traveling in those roads are hell of an experience. The busses are stationed in workshops due to spare part damage each day and district administration is doing nothing to repair the roads. They said that the Dc is not utilizing to rain damage fund for repair. Even the MLA basavaraju is taking least interest about the problem, he said.

Puttuswamy said that the busses will go off road on November third in protest.

Bus owners Prakash, Gowtham, Yogesh, Suresh, Milan, madappa, Prasad and Kowshik were present.

SHORT STORY BOOK RELEASED;

“PULI CHOLE” a short story book in Kodava was released at Ammathi yesterday.

The book authored by Geetha mandanna was released by Ammathi Royals club president Mandepanda Laala Mandanna.

Presiding over the function, president of the kodava Elthkarada kuta president Ulliyada M.Poovaiah spoke about the continuous activities of the Kuta in bringing out books. Kodava Academy president Ulliyada Dotty Poovaiah inaugurated the function.
