TEERTODBAVA ENTHRALLS DEVOTEES;

Thousands of devotees took a holy dip at the Kundike at Talacauvery after the Teertodbava that took place at 2.31 a.m.

Chantings of ‘jai Kaveri Maate” reverberated around Brahmagiri hills as frenzied devotees jumped to the lake to receive the first drop of Teerta at the peak hour. Men, women and children, despite their age factors dared the cold and rainfall till wee hours to take holy bath.

Ministers Nagaraja Shetty of Mujarai and district incharge minister Ramachandra Gowda, MP Sadananda Gowda, MLAs K.G.Bopaiah and H.D.Basavaraju were among the thousands who witnessed Teertodbava and received teertaprasad.

MAN TRAMPLED TO DEATH;

In a bizarre incident a villager was killed as a large crowd was indulging in chasing an elephant herd away from their village at Ankanalli near Shanivarsanthe.

A farmer, Suresh, 36 was working in his field as an elephant dashed towards him with a calf. The elephant was annoyed as the villagers and forest department personnel were involved in chasing the herd by using drums and crackers. The elephant escaped from the herd with its calf and ran towards the field where Suresh was working with his brother. He was thrown into air and trampled to death on the spot. The onlookers said that the angry elephant later covered the body with paddy crop and left the place.

Kodagu and Hassan forest departments were doing joint operation to chase the herd into forest in the border village. Kodagu ACFO Alexander presented a cheque of rupees one lakh to the family of the deceased.

VOLVO FOR CHIEF MINISTER;

The Chief Minister will now have a Hi Tech Volvo bus to travel.

The director of security and intelligence, B.Bhaskar Rao announce here yesterday the Karnataka State Road Transportation Corporation has come out with a hi tech Volvo bus for the Chief Minister to travel.

Addressing scribes in a meet the press programme here, he said that the bus will have all the facilities like conference hall, pantry, toilet, wash etc.

He also disclosed that two bus stands would be built in Kodagu at Gonicopal and hebbale at a cost of rupees fifty five lakhs. Rupees two crores is earmarked to renovate and build a complex at Madikeri Bustand, he said.

Mangalore divisional controller Karumbaiah and journalist H.T.Anil were present.

THREE KILLED IN ACCIDENT

Madikeri Oct. 18

Kodagu S.P Dr Ramachandra Rao’s wife ,Mother in law and the DAR police driver were killed in a road accident at Mangalore today.

Nathi Venkata Sheshalakshmi (35) wife of Dr. Ramachandra Rao the Kodagu S.P and the DAR police driver Gopal(50) were killed on the spot when the police quails vehicle (No.KA-12 G.321) hit a tanker (KA-19-AC9099) at parangipet, in a narrow road at Mangalore city today at about 3.45 P.M. S.P’s Mother-in law Shanthi (53) died on the way to hospital.

The vehicle had left at about 11.45 from Madikeri. .Two children were also travelling in the vehicle. SP’s daughter Sai Likhitha is said to be unhurt, while son Deepamshu (About 3 years) is injured.

S.P.Dr. Ramachandra Rao got the information at 4 P.M. and rushed to Mangalore. His father in law AppaRao has also accompanied him.

S.P’s father in law Appa Rao and mother in law Shanthi have reached Madikeri three days back They came from Hyderabad their native place to participate in the 9th birthday celebration of Sai Likhitha S.P’s daughter yesterday.

Today it is General Holiday in Kodagu for Thula Kaveri Sankrmana and so the family members planned a casual trip to Mangalore. Infact AppaRao, the father in law of SP was ready to go for the trip along with other members, but in a last moment he changed his mind and stayed back at Madikeri.
