Bopaiah digging out the first pit for the work “SAKSHARA KAVERI” – PROJECT STOPPEDMadikeri Oct. 15 “Sakshara Kavery” a Central Govt. aided project to achieve 100% literacy has been stopped due to the non payment of remunerations to Motivators and Asst. Motivators. Non payment to the motivators in Kutta division, South Kodagu since 2003 is the living example for the failure of Govt. sanctioned schemes. The “Sakshara Kavery” committees were formed in many villages in kodagu under the scheme. The committee members conducted their duty of finding out the illiterates to literate them, rejoining the students who have discontinued from the schools, publicizing about the cleanliness awareness and other activities. Although the members and the motivators completely involved and strived hard to support the Govt. scheme by doing the field work, the sanctioning authorities have completely ignored the good deeds. No recognition for the Committee’s work especially in Kutta Division irrespective of memorandums and reminders. Not paid a paisa since Sept. 2003 for the works done. The Committees were subscribing the Newspapers to provide them for the newly literates. The present grievous financial conditions have made them to stop Newspaper subscriptions also. The Committee is running its office in the agricultural building. The agricultural authorities have not cleared the electricity pending bills of Rs. 7 thousnd. The KPTCL has disconnected the electricity supply and the office is running in dark. The Television is waiting for electricity to get switched on! The library is opened for namesake with all the old books and without any new collectios. What is the remedy for such unsolved problems? The Kutta Panchayath has kept Rs. 25 thousand as reserve fund for the literacy works. But, the Kodagu Zilla Panchayath is not giving permission to utilize the amount. The Z.P. ignores the literacy campaigning. PHOTO: OFFICE OPENED WITHOUT ELECTRICITY FOR TV |
