TALACAUVERY GEARING UP FOR FESTIVAL;

Bhagamandala and Talacauvery, the twin temple towns are gearing up for Teertodhbhava on 17th late night, i.e 18 mornings at 2.30 a.m.

The district administration is setting up huge pendals, toilets and other basic facilities to cater to the need of thousands of devotees expected to come. Roads and drainages are being done up.

Devotees from different parts of the country will throng Talacauvery to take a holy dip at the origin of Cauvery. Special poojas and festivities will continue for one full month. Devotees will first take bath at the confluence of river Cauvery at bhagamandal and climb up or drive eight kilometers to Talacauvery to take a dip in holy ‘Teertha”.

INDIAN CULTURE REMAINS EVER GREEN;

State Higher Education minister D.S.Shankara Murthy stated that Indian culture will remain ever green, students and citizens should try to protect it.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating an auditorium at cauvery College Gonicoppal, the minister said that though the state is celebrating “Suvarna Karnataka” year, it is yet to become fit for celebration with the due participation of everyone. People have to serve the state to turn it into ‘Cheluva Kannada Naadu’.

He called upon the students to dream about the growth of India. Youth converting into better citizens itself is a greatest contribution they can give to the nation, he said. Addressing the gathering, MLC Arun machaiah assured to release fund for compound wall around the ground and Kodava museum set up in the college. MLA Basavaraju inaugurated the students union. Dr.M/M.Chengappa adviced the students to be aware of the evils of the society and strive for success.

Dr.A.S.Poovamma and Benedict Saldanha compeered the programme. Principal M.K.Monnappa introduced the guests. A.K.Biddappa welcomed the gathering. C.N.Ganapathy proposed vote of thanks.

KIDNAP ATTEMPT FOILED;

Two girls escaped from the clutches of kidnappers yesterday and admitted to hospital with injuries.

According to police, Driver Vasu and Chandra convinced two girls Lakshmi and Latha to drop them home in their Maruthi Van at Kutta on the night of tenth. The girls were returning from a movie. The duo tried to molest the girls by driving them to a remote place. But the girls braved the duo and jumped out of the moving vehicle. Latha fell head down and landed in hospital eith deep wounds. Lakshmi has minor injuries.

Kutta police arrested the duo and sent them to judicial custody.
