SUVARNA SAMSKRITI DIBBANA GIVEN ROUSING SEND OFF;

The Suvarna Samskriti Dibbana team was given a rousing send off at Kushalnagar, the border between Kodagu and Mysore, yesterday.

The team leaving the Kodagu border was warmly welcomed by Mysore side with Tibetans and other cultural groups. Veeragase, Kamsale dance, dollu kunita, kolata and other troupes performed attractive programmes on the main road and took the team in a grand procession on the state high way.

Former ZP president K.P.Chandrakala, former MLA from Periyapatna, Basavaraju, T.P.Ramesh and others were present. The team will tour Mysore for another thirteen days.


DISTRICT INCURRS 41.63 CRORE RAIN DAMAGE;

Kodagu district has incurred a loss of 41.63 crores due to excess rainfall and flood situations, according to Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav.

He said in a communiqué, after holding a district level meeting that eight people have died due to rainfall in Kodagu and four lakh compensation was released to the bereaved families. About 40 incidents of the death of live stock was reported and rupees 1.8 lakh compensation was paid in 39 cases. Around 944 house damages were reported and 810 beneficiaries received seventeen lakhs as compensation.

The DC said that 1130 hectares of agricultural land was affected due to flood and the loss was estimated at rupees 70.71 lakh in 1151 cases. Around 1676 hectares of horticulture land was damaged with a loss of rupees 958 lakhs. Over five thousand agriculture loss incidents are reported and rupees 40.70 lakh was released as compensation.

PWD and Zilla Panchayath have estimated lakhs of rupees as loss in connection with roads and bridges damage.

The district has registered about fourteen percent more rainfall in the present year. Madikeri registered 143 inches, Virajpet 95.08 and Somwarpet received 87.87 inches of rainfall this year till the end of September.
