“PATTADA CUP” FAMILY CRICKET KICK STARTS;

The fifteen days “Pattada Cricket Cup” sponsored by Pattada family was inaugurated at Virajpet yesterday.

This was the first leather ball cricket being played by the families while they used to play in tennis ball so far. Around eighteen families will take part in the tournament played at the junior college grounds.

President of the Kodava Samaj, Nayada Vasu Nanjappa did the bowling and Professor Nanjunda did batting to mark the opening. Pattada U.BNelliappa inaugutated the function, earlier.

Addressing the gathering, chief guest Dr.M.M.Chengappa stated that cricket has taken over the fame of hockey in national level and youth should be encouraged in this field.

Professor Nanjunda called upon the Kodava community to invite people from other communities and conduct joint tournaments. Another guest, journalist G.Chidvilas stated that the unity among families is essential and Kodava community is a model in it. President of the District cricket association, Kumar Appachu urged the government to encourage cricket in the district and provide coaching. Princiapal Viju Bopanna spoke on the occasion and said that youth can thrive in cricket only if they detest from bad habbitts.

Dharmavathy welcomed the gathering.Viju Bopanna compered the programme.Pattada family chairman P.K.Chengappa, cricket committee president Arun Chengappa and player Muthappa were on the dais.


SAMSKRUTIKA DIBBANA RECEIVED;

The team of Samskruthika Dibbana, began three days ago at Talacauvery was received yesterday night at Madikeri by Kannada organizations.

The team was received at General Thimmaiah circle by Zilla Panchayath vice president B.C.Nellamma, Kannada and culture department, Kannada sahitya parishath and other representatives. A procession was taken out in the main streets of the town and various cultural programmes were held at Cauvery Kalakshetra.

Earlier a poets meet was held. Presiding over the meet, advocate K.P.Balasubrahmanya stated that the writings of the poets should represent the value and beauty of literature. Chief guest Chandrashekara Mallorahatti explained that literature is a medium to unite people. President of kannada sahitya Parishath, T.P.Ramesh said that a better society could be built by indulging in poetry and literature. B.A.Shamshuddin welcopmed the gathering.Taluk parishath president Baby Mathew and others were on the dais. About eleven poets representing different languages presented their poems.

TEACHER SUSPENDED;

Head mistress of Marur residential school, Poovamma wasd suspended for dereliction of duty.

She was suspended from the school as inmates of her school, Sc St students were continuously molested by a cook Ravi. The Head Mistrwess and other lady staff had refused to support the girls even though they were complaining about the sexual harassment.

Ravi was arrestede earlier and is sent to judicial custody.
