VILLAGE FOLK REFLECT KANNADA CULTURE;Madikeri November 30, 2006 Women from villages reflect the beauty of Kannada through their cradle songs and talk, said former minister Leelavathi R.Prasad. She was addressing the valedictory function of Taluk Kannada sahitya sammelan at Somwarpet yesterday. She regretted that words like ‘uncle, aunty, biscuit’ mixed with Kannada speaking is eroding the culture. She also lashed at the writers and said that let us not think that whatever we scribble can become a literature. She opined that even though a littérateur dies, his writings will survive. MLA B.A.Jeevijaya, who led the Sammelan spoke on the occasion and alleged that the state government is ignoring the interest of Kodagu and has a step motherly attitude towards it. District Parishath president T.P.ramesh read the resolution. Taluk president J.C.Shekar, V.P.Shashidar, K.P.Chandrakala and others were present. The Sammelan was inaugurated and presided over by Sachidanandaih in the morning. Colourful procession depicting art and culture was taken out in the town. PROTEST AGAINST ATTROCITY BY DALITH LEADERS;A protest march and meeting was held at Srimangala yesterday against two dalith leaders indulging in false complaint and harassment of people. A Dalith leader Kumarappa, Dada uthappa, Uday addressed the gathering and regretted that people are being harassed by their own leader Govindappa and Krishnappa. He said that Govindappa lodges false complaint against people and demands money and action by misusing the law which supports them. The DySP was asked to initiate action against the duo and keep them away from Kodagu. Protestors said that the above two leaders are the only witnesses to many atrocity cases fabricated in South Kodagu. Protestors told that there were about 15 to 20 cases booked against people and only about three cases went to court. Rest of the cases were settled by accepting around thirty thousand rupees each. People are being harassed by daliths and the law is being misused, the said. TOILETS TO FORTY THOUSAND FAMILIES;The government is determined to provide toilets to about forty thousand families, according to state Panchayath raj chief secretary M.R.Srinivas Murthy. Addressing the gathering at Old assembly hall in a function organized by Zilla panchayath, he called upon Kodagu Z to turnout as the best Panchayath in implementing sanitary programmes. He instructed the officials to complete the sanitary programmes by end of next year. ZP president Ashok presided over the meeting. |
