COFFEE BOARD DEMANDS INSURANCE FOR NATURAL CALAMITIES

The Coffee board has appealed to the centre to declare insurance for planters to combat natural disasters.

In a telephonic conversation with this correspondent, the coffee board secretary J.N.raj informed that a special committee was formed to present set of demands to be included in the next central budget by the board and it has prepared a list of demands.

As per the demand, the government is requested to consider insurance cover during variation in weather and natural calamities and assistance to grow more trees to provide shade for coffee on demand. He said that the board has in mind the competition the growers have to give to international market in quality and quantity wise. He said that the government is requested to include and implement their various demands in the eleventh five year plan.

He disclosed that an International coffee festival would be held during February 2007 for three days. The strength of Indian coffee would be introduced to the International market, he said.

ULTIMATUM SERVED TO WRITE BOARDS IN KANNADA;

The district Chamber of Commerce, Kannada Sahitya Parishath and other organizations have issued fifteen days time to traders to change their boards into kannda.

Taking out an awareness march here yesterday, they insisted on changing boards written in other languages. Notice was issued to about 19 traders who did not display Kannada.

T.P.Ramesh, G.Chidvilas, Baby Mathew, Mehroz Khan, Navin, Vinodh Chandra and others representing different organizations and departments took part in the procession.
