BHAGAVATHY TEAM CLINCHES SANGAM FOOTBALL TROPHY;

Bhagavathy team of Haalugunda clinched the prestigious Foot ball trophy yesterday in closely fought finals with last years Champions, Chetan Youth association team from Chettalli.

The three day foot ball tournament organized by Sangam Youth Club, Maragodu ended yesterday with the semi finals and finals enthralling the audience. Bhagavathy team won with 3 – 2 against Chetan team in the extra time.

Presiding over the prize distribution ceremony, MLA K.G.Bopaiah assured to provide financial help to improve the play ground of Bharati education trust, where the tournament is conducted every year. He also assured to release rupees one lakh to build a stage from taluk Panchayath. Taluk Panchayath president Talur Kishore Kumar, Prabhudev, babindra Prasadh and Ravindra Prasadh were present.

ADVENTURE EXERCISE TO COMBATE SITUATIONS;

Home guards, NCC, Police, Scouts and guides yesterday exhibited adventurous exercises to combat calamitous situations.

Home guards commandant Major ( Retd) Nanjappa flagged off the march at KSRTC bustand in the morning. The participants took out an awareness march in the main roads and assembled at Gandhi Maidan.

Police, fire brigade and Home guards exhibited adventurous acts of climbing down the high rise building.

Extinguishing fire, saving victims from inferno and other spectacular shows were conducted to bring awareness among public as to how they could act during emergency.

Receiving the guard of honor, Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav said that conducting similar exercise each year will spread awareness among people. Major (Retd) Nanjappa reminded people of the calamities which might strike in the form of terrorism or natural calamity. People should be prepared to face such eventualities, he said.

‘AKSHARA ATITYA’ AT DISTRICT PRISON;

Zilla Panchayath president Ashok yesterday inaugurated literacy programme inside the district prison under ‘Akshara Atitya’ programme. As per the programme, the literate prisoners would be made to teach the illiterate inside the prison.

Addressing the gathering he stated that many leaders were born inside the prison and all the inmates should transform into better citizens and leaders. The prison has around 51 illiterates living there.

Information officer Vinodh Chandra and other officials were present.
