PROTEST AGAINST SADDAM VERDICT;Madikeri November 10, 2006 A protest march was taken out at Siddapur, 29 kilometers from Madikeri, opposing the verdict ordering hanging of Saddam Hussein. The procession led by Janashakthi Organisation walked from Nellihudikeri to Siddapur town in support of former president of Iraq, Saddam Hussein. Speakers, leaders of CITU, Kuttappan, Mohammed Master and T.T.Udaya Kumar addressed the gathering at Bustand and condemned the attitudes of Americans. They stressed that Saddam should not be allowed to be hanged. India and other countries should support Saddam, they said. MLA BOMBARDS OFFICIALS;MLA basavaraju bombarded officials who are absent to the meeting and instructed Tahasildar to initiate action. Basavaraju went furious in the taluk progress review meeting held at Virajpet yesterday as many officials were absent in the meeting. He even sent under officials with no information away from the meeting hall. Basavaraju noted that an official from small irrigation department is drawing a salary of rupees 1.2 lakh per annum and has undertaken construction works of rupees 3.5 lakh only for the whole year. ‘Do we need such officials?, he questioned bitterly. He instructed the officials to complete the works of roads and bridges early. He also instructed the tahasildar to transfer the food assistant as complaints of irregularities have been received by him. An investigation team was formed to probe the crack developed in a new hostel building. The building was constructed by Land army and an investigation would be held. FISHING BOY SLIPS TO DEATH;A boy fishing in a lake slipped to death at Nalkeri, yesterday. Appu aged eighteen was reportedly fishing in a lake belonging to A.Chondamma and fell into it. Police visited the spot and sent the body for autopsy. A case is registered. |
