ELEPHANT GOES AMUCK;Madikeri November 8, 2006 “Bharata”, the dasara famed elephant at Mathigod elephant camp yesterday went amuck and created ruckus in the small town, Thithimathi. People ran helter skelter and vehicles were recklessly driven to safety as the trumpeting elephant began to charge aimlessly. It escaped from the camp with the tied chain and the mahouts failed to bring it under control. A parked lorry was nearly turned down by it. Shops downed their shutters as the tusker tried to charge inside. Police and forest department tried in vain to chase it to the camp. The tamed elephants were brought to control it. ‘Bharata” walked with the tamed herd and suddenly rushed haywire. The night long struggle to catch it failed and the circus is continuing since morning to capture it. BANGARAPPA TO VISIT KODAGU;The Samajwadi supreme and former Chief Minister S.Bangarappa will visit Kodagu on this 14th. Addressing a press conference here, the state general secretary D.R.Raju told that a conference would be held at Madikeri on the said day. The party is launching protest rallies all over the state in phases, condemning the failures of state and central governments. Raju accused that the 150 granite haul is not given to COD for investigation, in spite of their pressure. Irregularities in corridor project, BPL cards and many more remain unsolved, he regretted. He said that the protest rally has begun at Davanagere on 24th last. Rally will be held at Mangalore on 13th and at Madikeri on 14th. MEMBER ATTEMPTS SUICIDE;A Gram panchayath member K.n.padma attempted suicide on Saturday night, irritated by the opposition she faced in the pachayath meeting. According to her husband G.V.Krishna, Padma a member of Mullusoge Gram Panchayath was verbally attacked by other members in the meeting about a drainage construction work. She consumed poison and continues to be in coma stage. She is brought to Madikeri and treated by doctors at government hospital. |
