FORT DEPICTS LOST GLORY; JANAPADA JATREMadikeri November 1, 2006 A first of its kind, Janapada jatre, Flok Festval was held at the Fort premises yesterday, recalling the glory of kings who ruled kodagu, sitting in the Fort. Reserved only for official functions so far, organizers of janapada Jatre, with the support of district administration threw a grand cultural show yesterday night at the Fort premises. Zilla Panchayath president Ashok inaugurated the show by blowing ‘Kahale’, the long horn styled instrument used by folklore. People cheered as all the guests attempted to blow the trumpet with much difficulty. A bullock cart treading fifty kilometers from Hebbale arrived at the spot, giving a touch of a village life. About eighteen folk troupes including tribes provided marvelous show to the applause by the people. About ten artists who have strived to preserve folk art in the district were honoured during the stage function. MLA K.G.Bopaiah presided over the function. ZP vice president B.C.neelamma, Taluk panchayath president talur Kishore Kumar were present as guests. Convenor K.C.cariappa spoke on the occasion. Anitha cariappa welcomed the gathering. Picture: Fort RAIN SPOILS RAJYOTSAVA FERVOUR;Sudden and heavy dpwnpour spoiled the fervour of colourful procession organised by the district administration, public and police. Tableaux depicting agriculture, culture, historical individuals, police, NCC, Scouts and Guides went in a procession across the town and assembled at Manns compound grounds. District incharge minister Ramachandra received guard of honour and addressed the gathering. He announced that the government is committed to solve the problems of the district and said that the C and D lands are handed over to land Bank to resolve the conflicts. He also stated that the the land owners would be given right over trees and an order in this regard would be passed in the next session. The minister honored eleven individuals during the function and handed over awards. Six officials and five others from public from different fields were also given Rajyotsava award.
