RAIN BATTERS; ROADS DE - LINKED;Madikeri May 29, 2006 The monsoon enters Kodagu with a heavy note and roads in many parts of the district were de linked within two days of its entry. Power and telephone connections are disrupted in many parts. Reports of heavy and incessant rainfall was reported from Madikeri, Virajpet and Somwarpet talukas. Bhagamandala received more than 15 inches of rainfall since two days and Knee high, water around the temple town has disrupted normal life. Talacauvery received nearly twenty inches of rainfall pushing the town into darkness. Telephone connections are also disrupted at Talacauvery and many other villages. Incomplete drainage works and cable trenches are causing havoc with busses and Lorries skidding into pits, disrupting traffic. Mud fall had blocked road for few hours in South Kodagu yesterday. The schools are reopened today dampening the spirit of the students walking with raincoats and umbrellas. The deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav has instructed MESCOM, PWD, and Revenue officials not to leave the district and attend to any emergency services round the clock. Picture; Confluence of Cauvery at Bhagamandala on the rise NEW SP TAKES CHARGE;The new superintendent of police, Dr.K.Ramachandra Rao received charge from SP Subramanyeshwara Rao, yesterday. Dr.Subramanyeshwara Rao was in the seat only for twenty days and received a transfer order to Udupi. Talking to scribes, the new SP called upon the people to develop close relationship with the police and discuss their problems openly. He assured to fill feeling of security in the minds of the people. ZP PRESIDENT FACES CHARGE;The driver of Zilla panchayath president here has complained that the president Ashok has assaulted him. Calling a press conference here, the convenor of Dalitha Sangarsha Samithy, Jayappahangal alleged that the Kushalnagar police have refused to accept the complaint lodged by the driver Raju. He warned that a protest and a dharna would be launched in front of the president’s office if the police fail to initiate action against Ashok. Driver Raju said that the incident took place at Kushalnagar at 1.30 a.m on Sunday after both of them had late dinner separately. President, abusing and attacking him has taken the car to his house, he alleged. Also police refused to accept the case, he said. |
