KANNADA SHOULD BE MADE COMPULSORY LANGUAGE;Sahitya Sammelan at Madikeri Madikeri May 6, 2006 Scientist and a literateur G.T.Narayan rao has called upon the government to make Kannada compulsory in education and administration in Kannada. G.T.Narayan Rao was addressing the crowd after presiding over the District Kannada Sahitya Sammelan here yesterday. Stating that Kannada language has all the criterions to be declared as the official language, Rao said that the Center should take interest in implementing it. He urged the implementation of Mahajan report and said that Kannada will not survive, otherwise. He recalled the statements of Minister Basavaraja Horatti who has promised to include Kannada from class one and expressed hope that the promise will be kept up and will not be ignored, as is usual in the administration. He also said that English should continue as a second language. Inaugurating the Sammelan, Professor L.S.Sheshgiri Rao stated that literature should become a part of ones life. He said that literature is like the inner eye of the society. He alleged that Karnataka is loser in many fields and regretted that the centre does not have even one elected representative in its ministry from Karnataka. The centre is ignoring the report submitted to provide official status to Kannada, he accused. If the language is given official status, it will receive rupees thirty crore from the centre, he disclosed. He also observed that Centre has released about two thousand stamps so far and it includes only about twenty, related to Karnataka. He also suggested including lessons to students about the Armed forces to educate the children. MLA K.G.Bopaiah released a souvenir and said that Kannada is being ignored in all levels. Even the society cannot speak proper Kannada unless it mixes English with it, he said. District Sahitya Parishath president T.P.Ramesh welcomed the gathering.B.A.Shamshuddin proposed vote of thanks. Earlier a grand cultural procession was taken out in the town. Picture; L.S.Sheshagiri rao inaugurating the Sammelan WILD BEES ATTACK TWO;TWO WOMEN WERE STUNG BY WILD BEES AND HOSPITALISED AT SHANIVARSANTHE. Parvathi, 56 and Girijamma, 57 were clearing the bushes in an estate at Hosur near Shanivarsanthe yesterday along with three others. The wild bees immediately attacked the duo while the others made an escape. The duo were shifted to hospital in a serious condition. They are out of danger, the doctors said. |
