SOMWARPET BANDH TOTAL;Madikeri May 3, 2006 Bandh call called by the action committee opposing delimitation report evoked good response and life in Somwarpet taluk came to a stand still today. Main roads in small towns and bordering areas wore a war raged sight with tyres burning, trees sprawling on roads to block traffic. The protestors in many parts of the taluk to block traffic cut dozens of trees, some of the very huge. The dawn to dusk witnessed routine life and traffic totally hit. Heat of the bandh was also felt in bordering talukas of Madikeri and Virajpet as conveyance and transportation was rocked by the bandh. Leaders of all parties stood in fore front and encouraged workers to block the roads. Skirmishes were observed in few places between people wanting to travel to attend weddings or so and protestors. Borders at Kodlipet, Shanivarsanthe, Hebbale and Kushalnagar were totally blocked. Tension prevailed at Nellihudikeri for a while as police there arrested a protestor. Skirmish rose, as a wedding party and a party with the dead body were not allowed to cross the road . A protestor attacked the party and landed in station. But the protestors in large nu,mber sat in dharna in front of the police station at siddapur to release the person. He was released after the parties arrived at a compromise. Picture: Road block in Shanivarsanthe CBSE AFFILIATION TO KV BVB;Vice chairman of Kodagu Vidyalaya Bharatiya Vidyabhavan, K.P.Uthappa told in a press conference today that their school has received CBSE affiliation. He said that Kodagu Vidyalaya has recently signed a memorandum of collaboration with the world renowned Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan and applied for affiliation to central board of secondary education, New Delhi. He said that the philosophy of school is “education for life” and it is going to be achieved. Executive vice chairman M.B.Belliappa, Director Maj.C.U.Monnappa explained the advantages of studying in CBSE schools. The school has been following CBSE curriculam upto class VIII from the last academic year. With this sanction the final batch of claaX students will appear at the CBSE exam in March 2008. |
