EXCISE FETCHES RS.3.74 CRORE;

The Excise auction held here yesterday fetched government exchequer rupees 3.74 crores, ten percent more than last year.

The auction to Kodagu excise was twice postponed in Bangalore since a month as the bidding was much lower than the last years figure. Third auction was held here yesterday evening in the presence of arrack barrons of Karnataka.

Present auction held by the Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav sold Madikeri taluk contract to 3,74,70,009. Virajpet was auctioned for 1.80 crore. Somwarpet went for rupees 1.20 crore.

Excise contractor Anand Kumar received the contract of 113 shops in Madikeri taluk, Jayakeerti of K.R.nagar took the contract of 144 shops at Somwarpet and G.R.Yogeshwar of Mysore took the contract of 175 shops at Virajpet.

Joint commissioner of excise R.Rajanna and DCE S.K.Kumar were present.

BIKE RIDER KILLED;

A bike rider was killed on the spot and the pillion rider injured seriously at Aluvara in Somwarpet taluk yesterday evening.

The incident occurred as the bike rammed against a road side rock.

Rider Prabhu died on the spot and pillion rider Prabhu was shifted to Kushalnagar hospital in a serious condition.

Kushalnagar police have registered a case.

‘SHAKTHI’ BAGS TWO AWARDS;

The first and the only Kannada daily published from Kodagu, “Shakthi” has bagged two awards from district journalists association.

The association communiqué said that the two journalists from Shakthi, Anchemane Sudi and Vanitha Chandramohan have received awards instituted for the best investigative report and best humanitarian report.

Writeup under tittle “Mamatha Naapatte Prakarana” written by Sudi and “Elli Ninnaramane Ellamma” were adjudged as the best by the judges appointed by the Journalists association.

The awards are instituted by Koovarkolli Indresh and P.P.Ponnappa.

DUPLICATE MANURE SEIZED;

Kushalnagar police have seized 240 bags of fake manure being supplied in a lorry by a group and arrested three persons.

It was alleged that agents from Kushalnagar were supplying fake manure to agriculturists and a lorry was seized by police on suspicion. It was found as fake after verification by the horticulture department.

Police sezed the lorry as villagers complained that they had seized a lorry earlier on Monday at Aluvara near Kushalnagar and released after the agent assured to replace the manure.

Sub Inspector Shivareddy told that the issue would be investigated. Superintendent of Police Ramachandra Rao, who visited the place stated that the guilty would be brought to book.
