ELEVEN CRORE FOR TOTAL SANITATION;

The government has released rupees eleven crore for total sanitation in Kodagu.

Disclosing this in a seminar held by the Zilla Panchayath to brief the Gram Panchayath chiefs about the importance of sanitation and the successfulimplementation of the scheme, the chief executive officer of Zilla Panchayath Sundar Naik regretted that people have to be taught about the sanitation in a civilized society.

He announced that all the villages in Kodagu would be provided with toilets, drinking water, drainage and all round facility to preserve sanitation. It’s a four phased programme which began from 2005 october and will end during 2009. The programme includes providing fund to poor, schools and communities to build toilets.

The scheme would be initiated in 25 Gram Panchayaths as a beginning. The government has appointed resource persons to manage the scheme on contract basis. He called upon the Gram Panchayath to implement the scheme effectively.

ZP president Ashok presided over the meeting and said that it is the duty of every Gram Panchayath to see that the benefit from the scheme reaches every door in village level.

The Gram Panchayaths implementing the scheme successfully would be rewarded suitably. Rupees two to four lakhs would be distributed to best Gram Panchayaths. Rupees twenty thopusand to service organizations. Rupees ten thousand to individuals taking into account their performance.

Apart from this, Taluk Panchayaths would be given rupees ten to twenty lakh if they show hundred percent progress. Even the Zilla Panchayth would receive 30 to 50 lakhs if the sceme reaches the target.

TEENAGERS HELD;

Kodagu Police arrested two teenagers eloping from home.

According to them, a boy aged 16 ran away with a girl aged thirteen from Mysore and molested her. Nagendra allegedly joined a hotel at Sharadanagar Mysore recently. He ran away from the hotel along with a thirteen-year-old girl, daughter of a woman working for the same hotel on 16th.. A complaint was lodged.

As a coincidence, the duo was found at Palur village near Madikeri. The girl reportedly called her house from ashop at palur. Noting the number, girls mother requested the shop owner to hold the duo if they come again for telephoning. The girl promptly arrived at the shop yesterday along with the boy for telephoning. Villagers caught hold of them and gave them to police.

Girl’s mother arrived here yesterday along with Mysore police. Children were taken to Mysore for inquiry. The girl was reportedly molested by the boy.
