GRASSHOPPERS AGAIN ATACKMadikeri June 22 Grasshoppers again seen in estates after a temporary control through pesticides. they are fast in eating dad up plants, grasses, Coffee leaf, Banana leaf jackfruit tree leaf and others. The insects are double numbering and spreading over a vast area .Slowly the Mugutageri,Begur and Ponnampet village farmers and growers becoming nervous and observing the affect desperately. At Mugutageri Village South Kodagu, the grasshoppers after finishing the estate plants are uninterruptedly swallowing the ground level grass to fill up their appetite In Begur Village the Banana plants belong to Chimmanna Kaverappa is almost became emptied after the insects attacked. When hey finish almost all the greenery in the area they fly to other estates without any obstructions. Before the wings are fully grown these insets can fly-up to 4 feet. After the wings grown they can fly up to any distance according to the experts report. When some of the insects were caught and were kept inside a plastic bottle, they have the sustainability of living for more than 20 days without food water or air. The farmers and growers urged the agricultural and the concerned departments to guide and help them with all the necessary pesticides and chemicals RAT FEVER STILL TROUBLINGMadikeri June 22 After a death incident due to the rat fever at Heggala village South Kodagu the District administration is on the alert. Heggala, a village near Virajpet is gripped by the fear of Rat fever which allegedly claimed the life of one . According to reports, Pramila, 28, a resident of Heggala village of rat fever yesterday in a hospital at Tellicherry in Kerala. Pramila complained of tiredness and continues vomiting since a week and was shifted to Virajpet hospital. As the illness did not subside, she was shifted to a hospital at Kerala where she died yesterday. The Kerala hospital has issued a certificate stating that she died of rat fever. Incidentally her two children are also suffering from fever. Condition of Her children Nitish, 8 and Nirish, 6 are said to be serious. The Heggala village panchayath member Achapanda Mahesh has said that few more villagers are suffering from the same fever and are hospitalized. He has urged the district health authorities to rush to the spot and initiate preventive measures to stop the spread of the disease. As a precautionary measure the District Helath department has opened a temporary treatment centre at Boodimal Anganavadi centre. The treatment is available throughuot the day and night. The department has decided to supply all the medicines applying to rat fever as free to the patients. One Medical officer and two nurses are deputed to the centre. Arrangements are e made for blood testing. Chlorination of water, awareness in the villages through pamphlets, a deep survey regarding the diseasese are the other measures taken by the department under the direction of Kodagu Zilla panchayath. REPRESENTATIVES RESPONIBILTYMadikeri June 22 The public representatives has the obligation of providing infrastructural facilities in the village areas-opined Smt. Prema cariappa Rajya Sabha member. She was addressing the villagers at Aravathoklu village near Gonikoppal after inaugurating the drinking water tank constructed at the cost of Rs. 4,5 lakhs by her quota grant which will be useful for the many number of villages.She expressed her dissatisfaction over the non cooperation from the people and without the proper approach she could not release the required grants for the overall development of the district she announced. The guest speaker, the ex minister Suma Vasanth has called for the unity among the villagers, so that they can submit memorandum for the projects to be carried in their areas, this will help the overall development she suggested.
