DC LISTENS TO PRISONERS;

Madikeri June 14, 2006

The Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav yesterday paid a visit to the district prison and listened to the grievances of the inmates.

The inmates complained that police have unnecessarily fixed them in many cases. The DC said that he will try to help the grieved with the limitation of law and assured to place their plea before Lok Adalath. The financially poor inmates would be provided free legal aid, he sia.

He questioned the inmates as to the condition inside the prison. He quipped asking ‘is there Ramrajya inside the prison and that’s why you are not complaining?

Subodh Yadav advised the jail authorities to provide clean and sufficient food and drinks like coffee and tea to the inmates. PWD was directed to repair the toilets and other places which require attention.

The jail authorities stated that the new prison building is coming up at a cost of rupees 1.24 crore at the outskirts of Madikeri and will be ready shortly.

DYFI HOLDS RASTA ROKHO;

The DYFI Kodagu unit yesterday protested against petrol hike at Virajpet and conducted an hours rasta rokho.

Similar protests were reported from Nellihudikeri and few other places. District organizing Secretary Peter lobo addressed the gathering at Virajpet and condemned the price hike decision.

AGRICULTURE COLLEGE AT Kudige;

The government will start an Agriculture College at Kudige.

According to sources, the agriculture minister Bandeppa Kashempur has directed the district administration to identify site at Kudige.

In a letter written to the Zilla Panchayath president Ashok, the personel secretary to the minister has mentioned that the minister’s direction comes after the ZP president appealed to open a college here. The college would be started at the Agriculture campus situated at Kudige. The campus has about 77 hectares of land. About 33 hectares is occupied by different departments like Sports school, horticulture, soil testing and few others.
