PEACEFUL POLLING IN GRAM PANCHAYATHS;Madikeri June 5, 2006 Polling was held for seven vacant places in seven panchayaths, yesterday. Election was held in seven-Gram panchayaths, while people boycotted election in another, alleging that they cannot support reserve candidates, every time. Candidates were elected unopposed to Maragodu, Birunani and Belur. Election was boycotted at Gowdalli. K.Nidugane, Siddapur and three constituencies at Chettalli and Kodagarahalli witnessed peaceful election. Voters in a polling booth at Siddapur DC URGES HOME STAY OWNERS TO REGISTER;Home stay owners doing roaring business in the district are directed to register their establishments. Talking to this correspondent, the Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav told that it is compulsory that home stay owners register their establishments and get proper license to run the business. He said that there are more than 900 home stays in Kodagu and hardly few dozens have registration. He also said that the sites where the business is done should be converted into commercial one, and the earnings should come under taxation. The owners are also advised to avail license to serve liquor. SHIFTING OF BUSTAND;Answering a query, the deputy commissioner said that the conjested private bustand at Madikeri would be shifted to a suitable place. He hinted that a four-acre land is identified in college road and the land acquiring process is on. Speaking about the trash from towns being dumped at the entrances and in public places, Subodh yadav said that places are identified for the purpose at Madikeri, siddapur and Sunticoppa. YOUTH RUN OVER;A youth was run over by a tractor at Dundalli near shanivarsanthe, yesterday. According to police, the tractor driven recklessly bashed against Mahesh and ran over him in the main road. Mahesh died on the way to the hospital. Police have registered a case. Driver is said to have absconded. |
