MAN EATER KILLS LABORERMadikeri July 29, 2006 A man eater which has been attacking men and killing live stock since a week has claimed the life of a person at South Kodagu in broad day light yesterday. The tiger attacked a laborer and lifted him into a bush from his tribal colony and ate half the body. The incident was reported from Nittur near Balele. According to the victims wife, her husband Chinnappa, 23 went to answer natures call around 2.30 pm. She heard him screaming after a while. She ran towards the direction and was baffled to see that the man eater was slicing his thigh and biting his shoulder, even when Chinnappa was alive. She screamed for help. By the time people came for help, the man eater disappeared after feasting over his thigh and a shoulder. Chinnappas body was lying in a pool of blood. Police, forest and peoples representatives arrived at the spot by night. This is the second life the man eater is claiming in South Kodagu in six months. Dozens of cows and buffalos are killed so far while two persons were attacked since a week. PROTEST AGAINST STATE AND CENTRE;The BJP, Congress and DSS members yesterday held protest against Centre and State governments. Led by MLA K.G.Bopaiah, the BJP took out a procession and submitted a memorandum to Deputy Commissioner. Hey condemned the Centre government and alleged that the government has utterly failed to curb terrorism and price rise. Where as the Congress led by former minister T.John, DCC president Veena Achaiah and others took out a procession and submitted memorandum to the Tahasildar. They demanded resignation of the Chief Minister in connection with the rupees 150 crore Mining Bribe scandal. Meanwhile members of the Dalita Sangarsha Samithi took out a separate procession and gathered before the City Municipal Council. The protesters alleged that the CMC is ignoring the three schools run by it. The accused that the students of their community studying in those schools are not getting proper attentuion and the school lakhs facilities. They have appealed to set right the draw backs at the earliest. COPS GET BOUNTY;Cops who took part in operation Veerappan received cash rewards from the Superintendent of police, Dr.Ramachandra Rao. Around officials, including constatbles and jeep drivers were given rupees three lakh to have taken part in the operation, risking their lives. Rao called upon the cops to face the challenges of terrorism and increasing criminal activities in the society and curb them tactfully. He informed that the state government has released rupees 18.5 crores in the two phases to be distributed to the cops who took part in the above operation. |
