SHORTAGE OF FUND IN EDUCATION DEPARTMENT;

Teachers at Government schools at Somwarpet taluk are not being paid regularly due to shortage of funds.

Taluk Panchayath president D’ Silva yesterday told in a meeting that the teachers are not getting full payment. He disclosed that there was a shortage of rupees seventy six lakhs this month. BEO Shivanna agreed to the shortage and said that the taluk would have to face a total shortage of 300 lakh by September. He stated that the shortage is artificial and was created due to a technical fault in accounting.

The Executive officer C.N.Devaraj reacted to it and cautioned that the BEO would be held responsible for the lapse if he is questioned by the higher ups or education minister. He disclosed that there is enough fund at the treasury and the official lapse from the taluk education department has caused shortage and is reflected on the teachers.

The meeting took up problems of drinking water, shortage of electricity, incomplete construction etc.

STUDENT ENDS LIFE;

Close on the heels of a girl student committing suicide, a tenth standard student of the same school hung to death yesterday evening.

Vinodh, 15 hung himself to death from a roof at his house here when his parents and others were not at home. Reason for his death is not known. Few days ago, another bright student from the same St.Meicheals school, Akshata of tenth standard died in a similar way.

Rotary Misty Hills has organized a counseling meet at the school on Monday to inspire the students to face challenges of life.

DANCE TROUPE TO AMERICA;

A traditional Ummatat dance troupe from Kodagu is invited to America to perform in the Global Kannada Conference.

President of the Kodava Academy, Dotty Poovaiah told here that an organization by name “Akka” has invited the dance troupe to perform Kodava traditional dances . The conference will be held for three days from September one at Washington.

Mallengada Sudha Muthanna is leading the team of nine.
