DON’T DESTROY ENVIORMENT IN KODAGU:M.C.N WARNS THE GOVT.

Madikeri July 9 stop destroying the environment in Kodagu. We cannot tolerate further -warned M.C.Nanaiah the ex minister to Govt. He urged to stop all the hydro electric projects proposed by the Govt. in Kodagu. The conservation of forests movemnt should become the National level movement. It should not be limited to a region or district-opined M.C.Nanaiah. He was addressing the gathering at Press Club, Madikeri in a wild life seminar organised by the wild life first association with video show.

When Ramakrishna Hegde was the Chief Minister the soft wood cutting permission was cancelled. "I had succeeded in convincing the then chief minister and because of that the soft wood trees in Kodagu still remain" said M.C.Nanaiah. He told Cauvery is a curse to Kodagu as Kodagu people are not at all benefited by the river Cauvery. Only Mandya and Mysore people enjoy the water - he analysed. Kodagu people suffer heavily during rainy season; The farmers could not carry the cultivation due to the flood in their paddy fields. However, all these calamities are faced by Kodagu people only to see the water level is filled in K.R.S and to see the other region farmers get benefit. Irrespective of the sacrifices, the Govts. and the bureaucrats try to destroy the natural environment in this western ghat region. The permissions are given to start hydro electric projects in the Abbifalls area. This is one of the important and beautiful tourists spot. The high handed licensees destroy the trees, hills and only for a meager electricity production which is also seasonal. why they force upon us to accept the decision taken by them? They want to spoil the religious atmosphere at Irpu Rameshwara where Lakshmanthirtha River flows. People believe in the traditional story of Shri Rama’s arrival mentioned in the legends analysed M.C.Nanaiah. People should be united to fight against such atrocities on nature Nanaiah suggested.

Wild life first trustee Praveen Bhargav presented wild life slide shows and a film on the Kuduremukh iron ore project pollution and destroying of nature mixing up of iron ore with the Bhadra and Thunga river sources. He told the association has fought to protect the Thunga, Bhadra rivers and also the farmers dependable on these rivers and the whole destruction process is now stopped through the Supreme court directs. In the Kuduremukh area.

The rotary misty hills and the Madikeri press club have arranged this seminar. B.G.Anantha shayana compered the program. S.P.Dr. Ram Chandra Rao, environmentalist K.M.Chinnappa. Press club president H.T.Anil and others were present.
