FAKE NOTES FOUND;Madikeri July 11, 2006 Virajpet police arrested a youth circulating fake notes yesterday in the town. According to police, Sanju, 24 handed over a five hundred rupee note in a shop in the town. Sanju disclosed to police that he received the note from a gambling house in the town. Police suspect a fake note racket and are investigating. TIGER MENACE ON THE INCREASE;Residents of South Kodagu have complained that the tiger menace is on the increase and they are losing their live stocks. In a complaint to forest department, they stated that a buffalow belonging to one Gandhi of Choorikad was eaten by a tiger on Monday night. The carcass of the buffalow was traced in the bushes. One more cow belonging to one Kamalama was also killed by the tiger, recently in the same area. The residens of Kanur and Choorikad have complained that they are afraid of sending their children to school due to the fear of tigers which is on the increase. They have appealed to the forest department to initiate action to chase or capture them. They are also served an ultimatum of fifteen days to release compensation to above two persons who have lost their live stock. CONSUMER FORUM FINES;The consumer forum here has directed a dealer from Bangalore Ramesh to replace a Xerox machine and pay a fine of rupees 2,500. Ramesh was directed to replace or repair the machine as he has supplied a defective set to one B.K.Ganesh of Madikeri. In another case LIC is directed to pay the insurance sum rupees fifty thousand to one Mrs.Gowramma along with interest. Her claim was being questioned by the LIC after the death of her husband. In the third case the Forum has thwarted the move by KSFC and asked it to pay rupees five hundred to a person holding surety. One Mallappa of Somwarpet had stood surety to a loan availee and he had complained that KSFC was unnecessarily harassing him. Forum has directed KSFC to pay rupees five hundred to him. In the fourth case The New India Assurance company was directed to pay rupees twenty five thousand to a student Rupa of St Josephs school, Somwarpet. Rupas mother had claimed insurance made through Rotary club. Her daughter had a fall and had injured the spine. The company had refused to pay the insurance sum. The Forum has directed the company to pay the sum with interest. |
