RS.TEN CRORE FOR RAIN DAMAGE ANNOUNCED;

The district in charge minister Ramachandra Gowda today announced that rupees ten crore would be released for the rain damage occurred during the first two weeks of June at Kodagu.

Addressing scribes here, he said that the proposal is before the government.

Answering to queries about the problems rocking the district, the visibly perturbed minister

Stated that a high-level meeting would be shortly called to tackle the issues. He said that forest and PWD ministers, local representatives, and officials would be invited for the meeting to be held under the chair of the Deputy Chief Minister B.S.yediyurappa.

Agreeing that he has personally seen the pathetic conditions of the roads in Kodagu, the minister said that these issues including the elephant menace would be discussed in detail to arrive at permanent solutions.

Reacting to question how the government is going to balance the fund requirement for the development of Kodagu as it loses one constituency; the minister said that more funds could be deviated through Malnad development.

Scribes tackled the minister who did not visit Kodagu during rain fury. At one point when a scribe asked about the compensation for crop loss during rainfall and elephant menace, he surprised by stating, “India is a poor country which cannot feed every one. The government can only give little to see that the poor do not die”. He questioned the scribes, what can any one do with the meager compensation they get from the government? We give the paisa sixteen against the loss of rupees one thousand! Even if you double it, the figure will be paisa 32, he quoted. This issue has to be resolved by the centre, he opined.

RS.6 CRORE FOR SARVA SHIKSA ABIYANA;

The meeting chaired by the district in charge minister Ramachandra Gowda today approved an action plan of rupees 5.95.695 crores under Sarva Shiksha Abiyana for the year 2006 – 07.

The minister reviewed the statistics produced by the education department and urged the officials to implement the schemes properly.

Zilla Panchayath president Ashok, CEO Sundar naik, MLAs H.D.Basavaraju and K.G.Bopaiah were present.

PREMA TO ENTER WEDDED LIFE;

Kannada Cine actress Neravanda Prema is all set to walk in the wedded life.

Her wedding is fixed for fifth and sixth of this month and will be held at Kodava samaj building, Vasanthnagar in Bangalore.

Prema is marrying a Kodava lad Kotera Appachu alias Jeevan. Prema invited Chief Minister kumar Swamy personally yesterday and handed him over an invitation.
