END OF ERA WITHOUT THE RULER

Madikeri Dec. 29 The negligence of small districts by the state and National level power holders has become the routine nature of the present politics. Kodagu is one of such cornered district in the state. This does not mean, the negligence starts in village level. Madikeri , the capital of Kodagu is also a disregarded area .The Suffering of the citizens during 9 months of continuous rain, lack of heavy industries to maintain the financial status, no railway facility are not heard by any high level position bearers till the day after independence. People even don’t bother about such things. But the demand to provide the basic amenities is also turned down by the state. Worst condition of roads, bad position of drainages, non maintenance of cleanliness, mismanagement in water supply in the city municipal limits are the achievements of official management without the involvement of elected representatives! Even, the absence of commissioner for several months without appointment from the Govt and changing of the commissioners in short periods are the development of this destitute Municipality!

Madikeri is the district headquarters. Since two and a half years the City Municipal Council is running without the president, vice president and the administrative board. Stay in high court by some other petitioners in other municipalities in the state has also affected Madikeri CMC. Govt. is not serious to vacate the stay with the proper legal argument. The petitioners mainly objected the misuse of power in the rotation reservation policy of the Govt. for the president and Vice Presidents’ posts.

It is a true factor that the bureaucrats sitting in the state capital; have created the policy watching at their nose point and the politicians sign the papers as puppets in the hands of these brilliants! Ultimately, the whole area occupying under Municipal limits in the state was handed over to bureaucratic administration since two and a half years. Now the time lapsed for the elected members to leave their councillorship also. The elected board consisting of 23 members in the Madikeri municipality will be automatically dissolved after 31st December as per the schedule announced by the Govt.

If the Govt. still delays to announce the decision for fresh elections, again the administration goes to chaos.

During the starting two and a half year administration Kaveramma Somanna of Congress was the president and T.M.Aiyappa was the Vice president. During their period the major work of road widening in the congested areas by dismantling the front portions of commercial buildings, Concrete road formation in some important areas, installation of High mast lights are some of the main achievements. When asked her opinion about the present situation, Kaveramma disclosed that she is hurt by the attitude of official administrators for ignoring the huge drinking water project to Madikeri town from Cauvery river proposed during her presidentship period. The present source at Galibeedu Kootuhole will be insufficient to feed the growing population. The decision was then changed and the negative opinion was conveyed to the Govt.by the official administrators that the project is not feasible. Now the citizens are permanent sufferers- kaveramma regretted talking to The Times of India here. Even SC Subramani of BJP who was the opposition leader in the CMC opined that during last two and a half year rule the town has been neglected without proper implementations of the various development projects. The commissioners are changing. The Deputy Commissioner who is the final authority to take decisions in the absence of the administrative board could not have deviated his time here due to so many other responsibilities and busy engagements - Subramani analised

The last meeting of the elected councilors is fixed on Dec. 30th. Now, Nobody is ready to predict the right future!
