GOVERNMENT OFFICES NEAR ABBI FALLS;Regional transport office, Kendriya Vidyalaya and police training centres will come up Abbi falls. Deputy Commissioner Subodh Yadav told this correspondent that offices have to be shifted to a far off place as no vacant place is available in town for the construction of buildings. RTO office is being shifted as the existing building was the house of general Thimmaiah. The government has decided to convert it as a monument and adviced RTO to b move out. Rupees two crore is sanctioned to construct RTO building. Meanwhile about 4.5 acres of land is sanctioned to build Kendriya Vidyala building by next year. Police training centre will also come in the same area. The DC also stated that rupees 90 lakh is sanctioned to build a new building for excise department which is also looking for land since three years. SCIENTISTS FEEL ORANGE SHOULD BE GROWN SEPERATELY;Scientist Dr.Raghupathy has adviced that the Mandarin should be grown separately and not as inter crop. Addressing the seminar organized at Gonicoppal by the Horticulture department and Agriculture research center, he opined that the expected crop could not be expected from it since it is grown as an intercrop.He observed that Mandarin which fears extinction in Kodagu suffers from lack of about 14 nutrients in the soil.He explained the methods of growing and protecting the plants. Scientist Gopalakrishna Pillai, Dr.Govindaraju and others were present. TP vice president sada Appachu presided over. ZP members and others took part in the seminar. KODAVA MELA COMES TO CLOSE;A colourful procession marked the closing of the two day Kodava Mela at Surlabbi yesterday. The cultural procession was inaugurated by Garvale GP president Napanda ganesh with a gunshot. “Dudikott paat”, the traditional song , parch past by NCC cadets, traditional dance added colour and vigor to the procession. Addressing the closing function, the joint director of Kannada Culture department, K.T.Chikkanna said that the main stays of the society are nature, Culture and language. He regretted that the society is facing danger as all the three factors are being neglected by people. Another guest Adengada Kuttappa regretted that the rich class has no concern towards the community and culture. He appreciated the media which is supporting the cultural values. Chairman of Kodava Academy urged the government to improve the conditions at Surlabbi. Surlabbi is deprived of basic facilities including proper transport system. |
