WHERE IS “BHAGYJYOTHI?”Madikeri Dec. 10 Where is “Bhagyajyothi?”, where is “Kuteera Jyothi?”all these Govt. schemes proved to be flop and false assurances by politicians and officials. The poor families who obtained connections under “Bhagyajyothi” scheme were assured by the then representatives and officials that they will get the electricity supply free of cost. But, now the Govt. or the Chescom is giving shock treatment! The families are getting heavy bills. It is not a mere hundreds. They have to pay bills of thousands of rupees. The beneficiaries are almost belong to labour calss. They worry about continuation of the electric lights, if the Govt. impose such a heavy tax on them. Another scheme, the “Kuteera Jyothi” was announced by central Govt. two years back. The Govt. had instructed all the village Panchayath heads to send a report with statistics about the number of poor families in the villages. The village panchayaths have sent the detail reports. The “Kuteera jyothi” scehemes were announced by officials and MP’s. Now no body knows where the scheme has gone? The poor people who are enlisted under poverty are roaming to Village panchayaths and Chescom offices often to get sanction the “Kuteera” scheme but in vain. To give an example about the dwindling of money and cheating the people, in Thyagathur tribes colony the tribe families were enjoying the electricity free supply under “Bhagyajyothi” scheme after the implementation. A year after this their house walls were fitted with electricity reading meters. Now, they were taxed with heavy bill amount. The same problem found in Siddapur, Nanjarayapatna, Abhyathmangala village colonies. Already the electricity supply has been disconnected by Chescom in kallalli, Basaavanahalli, Chotepare and other villages where the poor families could not afford to bear the bill amount . The chescom authoirities recently announced here the entire villages in the district will be provided the electricity supply. In practical, the electricity supplied villages are also got disconnected at present. Further, many poor families are crying after they received bill for more than Rs. 3 thousand to pay including arrears.
