MOTHER – DAUGHTER DONE TO DEATH;Madikeri December 7, 2006 A carpenter done to death his mother and daughter yesterday and surrendered to [police. According to Madapur police, carpenter M.Vijaya, 47 was suspecting the fidelity of his wife Tanga and daughter Jayanthi with a person at Iggodlu village near Madapur. Though his daughter was married to a boy living in Bangalore during October, she was not happy with the wedding. Yesterday, as she was back at home, he wielded a sword and tried to attack daughter and wife. As the fate would have it, his wife Tanga ran to safety. Vijays mother Kalyani, 68, who tried to shield the duo received the attack and she fell dead on the spot. The accused later attacked his daughter Jayanthi, 20. She also fell dead. Police found two bodies lying in a pool of blood. Investigation is on. Vijay is sent to judicial custody. VIRAJPET BANDH ON 30THThe Cauvery Sene has called for Virajpet Bandh to protest against the proposed Hi Tension line project. Addressing scribes, Convenor Ravi Chengappa stated that the call for bandh is given to protest the statement OF the managing director of Chescom, Vijayanarasimha’s statement confirming the project. Ravi Chengappa said that a protest meet would be held on December thirtieth at Virajpet and the whole taluka would observe bandh. A preliminary meeting would be held obn this tenth to chalkout the protest strategy. The Cauvery Sene is opposing the Hi tension line which would cross Kodagu to reach Kerala. They state that the line will hamper environment and cause damage. MINISTER ASSURES MEDICAL COLLEGE;The state minister for medical education, V.S.Acharya has assured that the government is prepared to give its nod for a medical college in Kodagu, if anyone comes forward with a proposal. Addressing scribes after taking part in the annual function of dental college at Virajpet yesterday, the minister said that medical colleges are coming up at Mandya, Belgaum and hassan this year. This is the first time that government sponsored colleges, three in number are coming up in one year, he said. Colleges will be opened at Shimoga, Raichur and Bidar during next year, he disclosed. He informed that there are total 27 colleges in the state and there is scope for seven more. He called uponthe people to come farward to start colleges and assured that the government will issue permission. |
