ADVOCATES TO MEET CM ON JAMMA ISSUE;Madikeri December 5, 2006 The advocates here have decided to convince government about the hurdles the Jamma land holders are facing due to governments latest order. In a seminar conducted here yesterday the high court advocate M.T.Nanaiah stated that the government should be briefed about the consequences of its latest order stating that the owners do not enjoy right over their jamma land. He suggested that people should take to protest strategy only if the government fails to respond to their appeal. Later there is scope for them to go to Supreme Court to question the order, he opined. M.T.Nanaiah was addressing the advocates in the seminar. Advocate Kuttanda Uthappa told the audience that the court in an earlier judgement had made it clear that the owners do not enjoy right over the land only if the land is not cultivated. BAR association president B.J.Chinnappa stated that the jamma land confusion existed even when R.Gundu Rao was the chief minister and the problem is taking ugly shape as the government failed to find a solution. P.D.Madappa from Mysore and others addressed the gathering. It was decided to meet the Chief Minister through as delegation. CONGRESS, BJP FIGHT ON THE STREET;Tension prevailed Sunday at Somwarpet taluk as BJP led by former MLA Appachu Ranjan tried to inaugurate three road repair schemes. Fight broke as the BJP tried to stake its claim to have sanctioned funds for the repair. The congress MLA B.A.Jivijaya had already performed pooja to mark the start of repair work, last week. BJP once again wanted to perform the same ritual. Heated arguments turned wild and party workers resorted to fisticuffs. Intervention by police brought the situation under control. The congress workers stated that works at Abburkatte and Beetikatte with an estimated cost of rupees 85 lakh, rupees 65 lakh and rupees 55 lakh was sanctioned by NABARD. MLA B.A.Jivijaya had inaugurated the works and function to this effect was also held. But the BJP invited Zilla Panchayath president Ashok to inaugurate these works again, leading to chaos. However, inspite of the ruckus, Ashok inaugurated to work symbolically and no function was held. |
